If you are that stupid to pay such a high markup, well then you deserve to get taken to the cleaners IMO.
If you make millions or get huge bonus for working hard, money isn't everything. A cool truck might feel like a real reward that is now easily reachable. Maybe you bought Tesla stock when it was low or some Bitcoin. Not everyone is equal in the their wallet so getting taken to the cleaners is relative.
To some, the Maverick with a small markup is still a bargain. To some, a Cessna twin prop plane is sitting in their private hanger and 20k difference is not big at all. Affording cool vehicles with markups is not being taken to the cleaners to many people with more means.
If some dealers ask for more money over MSRP for scarce new cars/trucks and there are plenty of buyers willing to pay the markup than why be a stupid dealer and sell for less. If you had the only one in the state would you as the owner of a dealership sell it at msrp. I think not.
This is quite different than marking up an already sold/ordered unit where price was at msrp . That is dishonest not stupid.
