Hello all,

I'm attempting to replace the front door speakers on my '25 Hybrid.

I got Kicker CSC 6.5" speakers.
I got the Metra 82-5605 adapter rings that Crutchfield suggests.

when I mount the speaker/adapter on the door, I cannot get the door trim to sit flush!

The new speaker and adapter seem to protrude out too far to let the trim sit flat. In other words, the new speaker + adapter plate are "taller" than the factory speaker, which seems to be the problem.

Did I get the wrong adapter? Crutchfield said use the 82-5605. But Metra Electronics doesn't even have a listing for '25 Mav. They do have a listing for a '24 Mav and they say to use a different adapter (82-5604). does anyone know if the 5604 sits lower?

Do I have to trim the door panel? It seems like the real problem is the "ring" that is molded into the door panel. Do I have to shave that off? (sorry no picture).

Has anyone else run into this problem?

Thanks to everyone in advance!

I put those kicker csc speaker in my 22 Maverick with the same 5605 adapter a few months ago. I do remember having to trim the adapter to make the speaker flush (had to shave off a few of the inner screw attachment points). And just in case it has to be said, don’t install with the included speaker covers.

Good point. Per the Crutchfield instructions: "To install 6-3/4" speakers, you'll need to remove the inner tabs on the aftermarket speaker bracket."

I installed Kicker KSS670s and had to do this. For all I know, OP either actually has 6.75" speakers, and/or the bracket trimming is still required with the speakers they do have.

I had it covered on both bases -
I used 6 1/2" speakers (not 6 3/4")
but also trimmed the tabs off anyway.

I take it you didn’t have to press hard to get the door skin to lay flat?

I didn't think excessive force was needed to re-seat the door card.

This is not my video, but it shows my exact problem and what he did about it.

the problem starts at 10:30 in the video (which theoretically should cue up when you click the link.)

and it shows what he did.

has anyone else had to trim this part off?

I used the Metra 82-5605 speaker mounting brackets and Kicker 51KSC6704ks Series 6 3/4 speakers. And Metra 72-5602 Speaker Wiring Harness
Put them together and they were close to the same thickness of the stock speaker. I did have to drill a hole to run the wires through. Had no fitment issues. Didn't have to trim anything.
In this video it looks like he is using two adapters because depth of the speaker.

In hindsight, your "problem" is that you used 6.5" speakers. I get that sometimes things just "fall off the back of a truck" or are bequeathed, or whatever - but for future readers, my recommendation is, go with 6.75"s.

Yes, haha. I forgot about having to make the holes/slots for the wires. Funny how that bit of ad-libbing with a Dremel etc. is just completely missing from the instructions from a place like Crutchfield...

Just make an adapter out of 1/4 inch plywood. Using some paper or thin cardboard trace out the door side of the adapter. Then trace out the speaker inside the door adapter. Cut out paper template and draw it on the plywood. Cut, drill the screw holes sand and you are done.
