If I recall, it’s a card holder. It’s to quickly set your card down after a drive thru or toll station. Then you can put it back away easily later.

It's obviously not a dirt catcher.
But it might be the thing that reports back to your insurance company.

Interestingly my 22 EB did not have the slot. My 24 hybrid has the slot. I stage my credit card there while I am waiting in the gas line at Costco.

The slot does seem redundant as there is a clip on the sun visor that I put my credit card in when I had my 22 EB.

And I am curious as to why the hybrid has a slot and the EB doesn't, or at least didn't in 22.
