Mav XLT headrest is too tall for this driver. Would it be possible to cut, smooth off the sharp ends and reinsert the shortened posts into the seat openings to achieve a lower-positioned headrest? Don't want to screw anything up but do want a more safe and comfortable ride. Thanks for any ideas!

if you push it all the way down and its too high..... cutting the posts wont help at all.. prolly go with a butt cushion.

Definitely, cutting the posts won't lower the headrest! The lowest the headrest can go is when it's bottom touches the top of the seatback. If your head, or the head in question, doesn't extend above the seatback, you have the protection a headrest provides - a cushioned support for your head in an accident.
