I think the measurement is 54 1/4 without the insulation I had a piece of 1"x 10" and added a piece of fir strip to the ends so it doesn't move in the factory slots painted it flat black works great and not as heavy as a 2x6 or 2x10 am only holding back grocery bags. as for cover I have the ford tri fold, I like it, am not working with my truck don't open it much it was little expensive compared to aftermarket ones with 20 off it was 4oo and change very well made and the vinal material is Definity upgraded looks great and is plenty long, lots of guys complaining the roll-up to short. AS for hard covers didn't want to block rear window and didn't want to spend at the tine 1100/1200 bucks.

About the dames as the ford factory

No noticeable leaks, even after a pressure wash. You will notice flapping while going down the road, but that's normal for the soft tops. I was also eyeing the signature. Easy to install. I had to cut about 1/8th inch of plastic from the front two anchor points, to make metal on metal contact but the rear connections are fine, no cutting needed.

I get a little water in mine, very minor and under high pressure, took 5 minutes to install, can look again and make adjustments but so minor don't think am going to waste my time. After a month now and 1000 miles looks and fits great, It's got a shine to it must be coated or upgrade vinal. I think its well worth the 100 more. And you get the ford emblem.
the soft roll ups are a pain in the ass you have to walk around the bed and pull them tight,
with the tri fold there always tight just flip it open and fold yes you loose a little access to bed but who cares the Mav is so low you can reach in if needed, I never load up the bed and if I have to takes 5 mins to remove...

The BAK hard rollup (Ford or direct from BAK) seems like what would work for me.

Will the Ford factory tonneau cover work with any bed extender (Ford or other)?

I have the BAK 4Xs installed in mine with the factory bed extender, no issues so far
