I was loading some 2X4 and 2X6's at Home Depot, while I was strapping them down some guy stopped and said "Next time you should buy a real truck with an 8 foot bed"! A few good comebacks rushed into my head, but I took the high road and ignored him. Not sure why some people cant keep to themselves. What do you think a good comeback would have been?
A guy at work made a "real truck" comment to me too. A couple of days later I had a pile of composted manure in the back that didn't phase the Mav and there were no more comments.

I'd tell him "I got the smallest truck you could find because I'm compensating". Or if I was in a hybrid id tell him it's ok I don't mind getting 600-700 miles per fill up and watch the envy on his stupid face

Context matters. If it was confrontational then yeah, dude was definitely a jerk. But if it was typical truck-guy ribbing, eh, better not listen to the CB radio traffic.

The guy was not in your face confrontational, but definitely was not truck guy ribbing.

Very few of the truck out there have an 8ft bed anymore. I had to order my other truck with an 8ft bed. Most opt up to a 6.5 ft and call that a "long bed" these days. Most of the trucks I see are 5.5ft beds. You should have ask the guy to show you his 8ft bed... LOL
"Hey bud, I've got a tape measure right here, let's go check out that 8' bed of yours."
If he does have one then you can make fun of it on it's own merits, if it's not an 8' bed then measure it and start making fun of him "coming up short" or some such.

I always laugh at those guys. I sold my Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins with a 8 footbed and traded a cuv for my Maverick. I also sold my 5th wheel as I was downsizing. Primary reason was the dodge was not being used much and the cuv was going to need major repair soon but I still want the convenience of a pickup without the hefty fuel bill. The Maverick clicked all the boxes. Folks like that are idiots. Something like a disabled veteran in 4Runner tailgating me when I was passing a semi truck on the freeway and I was doing ten over the limit.

Bro why do people have to be like this? I don't like Jeeps, I've still never walked up to a Jeep owner and been like "Haha your car sucks". Like I could be going crazy, but it almost feels like people are getting ruder and more confrontational, and it's just sad. There's literally nothing to be gained by being an asshole to someone, sorry you have to deal with dickheads like that.
100%
I'm talking smack about teslas and prius and the cybercar and other stuff I dislike all the time but I would never say anything to the owners.

How many trucks today have 8' beds?

12. I counted them. It took 4 years to visit every garage, parking lot, and driveway but I finally finished and it was twelve. I'm certain because I had to take off my left shoe to count the last 2.
perfect! Thank you for performing the exhaustive research and quantitative analyst that we all have benefited from.

"Actually, the tailgate tilts so I can carry 8 foot sheets of plywood and drywall. Plus, I get over 45 miles per gallon. Have a nice day."

I live in a small town so it pays to be courteous.

On very rare occasions when parking next to large trucks, I tell the owner that my Maverick wants to be just like their truck when it grows up.

With what I saved on this truck and the gas mileage I'm getting, I paid for all this lumber and im going to dinner after this so just go eat your sandwich! Yes the high road was the way to go.

Not the high road but very funny
I drove an f 250 crew for work for many years and I used it for both ship's crews transport and ship's spares and I can tell you parking is a nightmare and if you park in lots you pay extra or even double. I'll keep my "cute little" 45 mag truck
