So I suppose it does not truly convert into a 100% Internal Combustion Engine. I'm at almost a year and have only 6000 miles on mine as I am retired and don't drive much. It's likely my battery will wear out due to its age, not use. Thanks for the info.

Go online and look for Maverick Tailgate Assist. I put one on my truck and you just release the tailgate and it gently falls into the down position. Works great.
You will always get better MPG at less than highway speeds. If you do a constant 25-35 mph with little stop and go you will certainly top 40 mpg. At highway speeds the gas engine is doing most if not all of the work and the mpg goes down.
