Yes, the tailgate plug was another thing I put on. Ford could, or should have included some of these add-ons. I've never purchased a vehicle that had so many issues. Thankfully, the fixes aren't expensive.
My first Ford Ranger didn't come with a rear bumper or radio. So, I guess Ford has a history of leaving essentials off their trucks. It was one of the first Rangers in the 80's.

I remember many Rangers with 4x4 bumpers. And i do not mean 4 wheel drive  . I had a 74 Chevy pickup with no rear bumper from the factory. License plate bracket mounted below the tail gate.
It's hard to believe a bumper could be deemed non-essential. I'm not positive, but I think bumpers are required by law in most states. I could be wrong... it happens. lol

Dang! In 80's 40-60% would have custom bumpers made so they were happy.

They are now. Back in the day light trucks were not required to have them. Per AI not until 1985 were rear bumpers mandatory for light trucks. That is about when you saw more and more Rangers, S10s etc as daily drivers not just work trucks.
My first Ranger was an '85. We just needed a 2nd vehicle to get to work. I ended up putting a small fortune into it accessorizing. lol
After I sold it I'd see it on the road for 15 years, in the same condition as when I sold it. Makes me think I should have kept it.

In KY a 4x4 is a custom bumper  .
LOL... while we do have our share of redknecks, they're a higher class of redkneck. Our boys, and girls, have lights on everything that moves.
Our women folk actually wear shoes in this part of the Commonwealth. 😉
