General question about the C-channel bed side slides

What the heck are they really good for? I just received my XLT last night and I was looking at it and wondering how I can really utilize them. I have a couple toolboxes on wheels that I have to take in and out of my truck for work (I'm using the Milwaukee packout locking system) I wish there was a way to secure these boxes with those but I'm having a difficult time figuring out how. Any idea would be awesome.

No topper or tonneau for me - I still need the bed for things like feed and hay, etc.
