Just filled my tank for the first time. I was surprised to learn that the gas cap doesn't really exist, just a rubber seal that pushes out of the way when you insert the pump's fill nozzle.

I parked in the garage at home and a couple hours later went into the garage and immediately smelled gas. I looked under the truck with a flashlight and I saw a very small puddle, so I moved the truck to smell the liquid, but to my relief it was just water.

I left the truck out of the garage and an hour later noticed no gas smell anymore.

So, does that little rubber seal allow some gasoline vapor to be released? I don't believe there were drips from my fill up, and besides, in years of storing my previous truck and my wife's car I'd never noticed a gas smell in the garage, even though surely, in all that time we'd have had a messy fill or two somewhere along the way and would have smelled it, if that were the explanation.

Anybody else have this sort of experience?

You're in Rochester and probably filled up in the freezing cold and parked in a warmer garage. Warmer temperatures expand things, so gas vapors were vented into the garage from the tank. Classic cold weather issue, wishing for snow down in GA.....Same thing would happen with normal gas cap, they are vented as well.

Was in the high 40s yesterday and as I've said, never had this with other vehicles so, no, probably not that. Thanks, though.

I’m in northeast where we’ve already had days that didn’t get out of the 20’s. I park my 23 Tremor in our attached garage every night and have never had a gas smell issue in there. Hopefully you can figure it out!

Ford's EasyFill capless system has been around since 2009. You have a slightly different version on your hybrid as they use a pressurized gas tank. It's possible that you have an issue, but in my opinion, pretty unlikely.

It could have been fuel spilled in the gas door or on your hands or clothing. If it doesn't happen again, no worries regardless of the causation.

Regardless of the reason or cause, if you are smelling gasolene, it’s not a good idea to park in a garage or enclosed area. Just my two cents.

Quite agree. Immediately moved it outside til I’m confident of a safe resolution.

Dissapated readily, never to repeat. I suspect was a drippy fuel nozzle when filling.
