So I think I've figured it out.

The Bronco Sport is the spiritual successor to the older Escape (from the oughts).

The current Escape is the spiritual successor to the Ford Focus (just lifted).

The EcoSport is the spiritual successor to the Fiesta (just lifted).

The Maverick is the spiritual successor to the old Ranger.

I think the new ranger is a different kind of truck (Aussie style) which I like, just not for me.

All other trucks just keep getting bigger.

Thoughts?

Agreed except the maverick is the spiritual successor to the fusion.

With a bed? If you are thinking along those lines, I would say that the Maverick is a new category altogether; which, I can get on board with. Truth be told, I think it's an Aussie Ute in a truck costume.

yeah the fusion has a pretty big trunk. Maverick is about the same size. Maverick feels like a fusion with a bed instead of a trunk to me.

Hadn’t really thought a lot about their linages, but ford marketing has finally recognized the Maverick in their truck line up.

So my 1st TV commercial where ford was advertising the F150, Ranger and Maverick. It actually got a short cameo.

Edit: this was in the mid-west market. (ABC -Kentucky)

I've actually thought about such and think Ford understands the market pretty well and moving to position it's product to match the market demand. And, spiritual ties to popular past products result in sales.

I read an article this morning about General Motors dropping the Chevy Trax and Buick Encore. The same article mentions the Maverick and Ford positioning a truck to take up the slack for a low cost and affordable vehicle. Right now at least, Ford seems to be proactive to the market through research and General Motors and Stellantis are reactive through results. But, Ford is not perfect and it could be different tomorrow.

I know it wasn't unibody but I think the Maverick is more along the lines of the Sport Trac than anything else.

A Bronco Sport Trac.
