Seriously. The more electronics, the more stuff to break. Remember the old red/blue sliders in the 70s? They never broke! All the fancy electronic thermostats break easily!
So on that note, they broke in both my parents' '68 plymouths, and my grandfather's '73 F-100. And I had the wheel version break in my '06 Colorado. And TBH, I've never seen a mechanic willing to fix those cables.

Not even as far back as the 70's. I had an early 90's Chevy S-10 that not only had the red/blue sliders, but one key for the door and another for the ignition! The horror!

This brings back some memories.....

I used to be a tech at an indy shop that serviced German cars. We often had to repair heater cables on old vehicles.

Chrysler products used to have mechanical push button transmission drive modes mounted in the dash. Recently drove in a newer RAM pick up with rotary dial gear selector in the dash. I liked the buttons better, but still like the rotary selector in the dash more than Ford's console location.
