Here's my story about Mavericks! I met my wife in 1972, and she had a 1971, Plain Jane Maverick, three on the tree, power nothing, but had a radio, and a heater. I had a Pontiac Grand Prix with a 400cu. engine. Then came the gas shortage, and I had to drive 40 miles each way to work, she found a job near by. Long story short, she said if you wanted to trade cars, you have to marry me. Like the Maverick Truck, I know a good deal when I see one. We got married in 1975, the old mav is gone, but I have a 1956 stick shift Thunderbird to replace it! And still have my original wife.

A lot of guys I know have replaced both. . . . several times. The cars were always the less expensive option. 😎

This meme got me thinking about how differently Ford has used the Maverick name over time.

The original Ford Maverick was introduced as a small, affordable compact car built around simplicity, practicality, and attracting younger buyers who wanted something a little different from the bigger Ford lineup at the time.
My dad ordered a new 1970 Maverick before they were released. Fun, cheap car but didn't stand up as well as his used 1949 Buick Roadmaster convertible. As soon as he got it we drive to Florida for vacation. Got there and he thought he was having a heart attack. Thankfully it wasn't. Seat padding was thin so he was sitting against the headrest support. Traded it in, at a Florida Ford dealer for a 1970 1/2 Torino 500 Halo Roof edition. Much better padding and a few more features.

Both Mavericks may have some common place, but what a difference to drive. I happened to drive a friend's '70-something Maverick many, many years ago and the driving experience was scary. Road feel was non-existent, steering was worse than a John Deere tractor, and I didn't dare drive over 55mph. We've come a long way.

Yes it was. I believe they called it Forest Green. Beautiful!
I had a 70' Maverick, 2-door, gold color, then a 1971 4-dr Maverick this same green color. That 6 cyl engine was so incredibly simple to work on & so tough.

With my tool box in the trunk, and a dry spot in the parking lot, wasn't much maintenance/repair and/or upgrades I wouldn't tackle on my 1970 Maverick.

Today, even with a nice garage, and a couple of big triple decker roll around tool chests, there's not much I feel capable of attempting on my 2022 Maverick.

Ain't modern technology grand! 😇
