$48k msrp for Mavericks in Brazil. Minimum wage there is like $250/month to give you an idea. It’s my second home and I kind of take offense to this. Ford has a major footprint there too.

Now we know why Ford is not going to make all the American orders. Why make a truck in Mexico and sell it in the US for $20k? When you can send it down to Brazil for twice the money. Sorry to all the June and July hybrid orders. Going to Brazil instead šŸ˜‚.

Maybe the vehicle is priced to 'compensate' officials.

I worked for a large data company that established a data center in Brazil. Getting anything in or out of customs was a nightmare. If you did not pay the bribes to customs officials, your supplies and products did not move.

We had to replace a hard drive in a storage array but couldn't for over 18 months. The drive arrived in customs from the U.S. overnight, but the drive sat in customs for 18 months. Repeated inquiries hinted that it could be released 'more quickly' if fees were paid. It's a good thing we installed the array with extra drives.

It's a good thing we installed the array with many extra drives in the first place.

Yeah I get that Brazil screw’s themselves with bullshit regulations and corruption. Mercedes used to charge $250k in China for a $100k car in USA. Chinese wages definitely aren’t 2.5 times the US. Some laws don’t cause prices to triple, it’s greed and the ability. Automotive industry is and always will be scummy through and through. Levi’s charges $200 for jeans in west Africa. It’s fucked up but they do it.

Ummm. No.
Levi's sells them to stores for whatever price, including shipping.
Let's call it $40.
Tack on the import duties, the national VAT, the province tax, the local tax and a store's profit margin (and we'll leave off the graft needed to pay off local officials, unions or whomever), THAT'S why they get to $200....
Same thing with Brazil.
Good try, though!

I'd take a fully loaded Fiat Toro 4x4 Diesel at $36K first. 50mpg and the interior layout is pretty sweet. The 180hp turbo gas version starts at $22K: https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/f...-but-not-yet-available-in-north-america.1861/

Made in Brazil, so no taxes on it.

698 billionaires live in China versus 136 billionaires in Germany. If you want to sell stuff to the ultra-rich, there are likely numerically more in China than in Deutschland where that Mercedes was made. Averages don't really matter so much.
