You can also adjust the tension on the cover to take out some of the Flutter

I did find out the clamps behind the cab had not been tightened Now that is fixed there is not much fluttering

As far as adjusting the tension as you and a couple others mentioned, are you referring to the tension on the latches at the tailgate? can that tension be adjusted?

I don't know the brand you have but on most there's screw like fittings at the front that adjusts the tension of the tarp

Flapping is from gaps in bed floor and wheel wells letting wind come through from.the bottom

Hello, i am seeing this issue with my soft Tonneau cover. I think that it's a 'normal' issue. So, here's what I'm thinking is going on. There is a low pressure zone behind the cab that's lifting the cover up. It's basically the same thing as the draft behind a semi-tractor trailer on the highway. One way to stop this is to have spoilers on the cab aiming the air behind the cab. Another idea is to either better attach the cover to the two cross bars or to put something between the cross bars and the cover to tighten it. This will of course raise the cover up just a bit in the middle.

The soft roll up covers flap more than the other styles. I have a hard roll up and it is much more rigid. It wouldn't hurt to check installation... But yeah... You are going to get some movement in it.

Thanks. I'm going to try a few things here and report back. I may have a really cheap mod fix. BTW: I've checked into this on other truck forums and it's not something unique to our truck.

So, here's my take. I recently bought a slightly used Mav. I have a soft Tonneau cover. It's a TruXedo TruXport brand that is offered from Ford accessories for $389.00 or another place for $349.00. Basically, it seems to be a good product and I've seen no water inside the bed from rain...so far. When attaching the cover you simply unroll it towards the tailgate and latch it, then go up the sides and connect the velcro that runs from cab to gate on both sides. My only complaint is that the area behind the cab begins to rise up and flutter at highway speed. The way to minimize this according to the company's info is to pull the sides tight when attaching the velcro. Of course, velcro can only take so much tension and the flutter may loosen it over time. This procedure really only reduces the flutter.
What it should have is that the two bars should have been connected through a more secure fabric tunnel from driver's side to pass. side. This would have made the bars work more like battens on a boat's sail to stop the flutter. The other option would have been to have the bars arch slightly and that would also prevent water or snow ponding in the middle of the cover. I could mod the thing wth pockets for the two bars but I'd want to not sew anthing through the cover for the bars. I'd want to somehow glute it on the bottom side across the cover.
Perhaps, a hard tri-fold is really the best option when this one gets worn out.

I have had soft covers before. Flutter city or look like a turtle. Been there done that. Hard cover tri-fold is the route I am going.

I have the same tonneau cover and came to the same conclusion.

mine flaps a bit, but it's not horrible and it is relatively water-tight. I've only had water intrusion when using a touchless car wash, and once in torrential rain when I had the bed very full - probably a bit overfull, under the tonneau.

I'm going to get a weathertech alloycover. it's actually made by someone else, but they are the same cost. I like that the lid can be quickly completely removed because I don't want a hard tri-fold blocking the rear window when I'm hauling MTBs on a tailgate pad.

I had a pro x15 truxedo on my '19 F150. It didn't flap AFAIR. But, here's an anecdote. I washed it once and left a drying towel on the cover on the right side near the edge. The following morning I drove it in the dark about 7 miles to the grocery store at speeds up to 60. I was surprised to see the towel still in place when I came out.

So my theory is that these things are designed to be aerodynamically efficient without a lot of turbulent airflow around them. Tests of fuel mileage with and without tonneau covers and tailgates back that. That leaves those drain holes, which none of my other pickups ever had, as the source.

Well, That's possible and entirely something to investigate. If I knew where those holes are, I could duct tape over them. My truck has the 5 piece molded Ford bed liner & I'm not entirely sure where those drain holes are. I do have a couple of holes up by the front sides of the bed and about halfway up from the bed floor. I've also seen where the tailgate has a lot of space on each side for venting out the bed if any water gets inside.
