Averaged 36mpg with the weight and yaks acting as sails. The hybrid handled tame forest roads great. Biggest takeaway from the trip is the Continentals suck. They don't get along with sand or boat ramps. Mild A/T tires and a 1 inch level will solve all my problems.
I get the overland concept / buddies love it. But I am just not into rendering the vehicle helpless with a ladder and tent combo ,.until it's taken down. Going up and down a steep ladder sounds fun until it isn't. PROs are it keeps critters away and u never have to locate a suitable flat spot without shrubs/rocks/anthills for a tent.I have an hybrid too and hoping to find the time to camp. . but i bought the hard roll up tonneau cover.. because i have to close the bed due to the sensitive stuff i put in the bed,,
i couldn’t find rack to could work withthe hard roll up tonneau… so i gave up on those expensive racks.
if i decide to keep the maverick i may invest in a topper and sell the tonneau.
the goal is to have a vehicle to do some camping and still be able to have a secured bed For daily stuff
an. Overland setup is not very convenient for us because when we camp, we also need the vehicle to go to town for quick errands or just doing stuff in town and back to the campground for the night.. a tent on top of the vehicle would have to be empty, closed and re deployed everytime …which sux for that.
so we are stuck with classic tent Too..
why im saying all this, is because since i got this maverick i spent over $2k of gears just to camp.
A couple of Lipo battery chargers, two solar panels, two freezers, a sun shelter, a beach cart, two different types of portable barbecue, id say we have $3000 worth of gears now… and the most expensive piece .. the maverick.
the Rough Country website only shows the 1" leveling kit for the AWD(4WD). I infer it works fine on the Hybrid?Update on the problem correction. 1" rough country level installed on the hybrid. Very easy install for any shadetree. Now to get the A/Ts to solve the other half and get the next camping trip scheduled.

Wow that trip looks awesome. I fit my yaks in the bed, but a roof rack frees up so much more room.
Fixed the tire problem today. Not what I originally planned but I snapped up a pair of Bronco Sport wheels with Continental CrossContact ATRs already mounted.
