Mine arrived at the dealership yesterday so I went to test drive it and finance the deal through Ford credit. After the test drive, they took the dealer plate off which they had magnetically attached to the upper corner of the cab and there's a pencil eraser sized hole in the edge of the tint coating right where the plate was hanging. The sales guy said they can fix it and later said they'd need to replace the whole back window! I never tinted a car window but read the tint is on the inside of the window. Is the hole in the tint on the inside of the window and it's just a coincidence that the plate was hanging in the same spot? Or is this a flaw in the window itself? The glass seems smooth on the outside and I didn't think to check inside the cab. Maybe the hole was there before the plate was attached and I didn't see it cause the plate was over it. Any help is appreciated.

Aftermarket tint is applied to the inside, but perhaps the factory tint is a coating on the outside of the glass? Since that tint is done at the factory, I am not surprised that it can't be fixed at the dealer.

The tint on my rear window was flawed from the factory. Not a hole in it....just not all the way to the edge in some places.

I doubt yours was due to the plate.

No, I didn't have them do anything about it.

I didn't want the hassle....and I work at the dealership (doing warranty admin and other things), and didn't want the hassle there either!

It is relatively minor and doesn't bother me.

I'm considering leaving it alone also because I'm not a fan of replacing glass due to the possible risk of leaks later. Seems hookie... But when I see the truck again, I'll look at the inside of the glass and see if a permanent sharpie marker will "color" in the hole in the tint. It may work and could render the "light" spot invisible. Plus the imperfection is close to the corner of the window.

I do like your idea! Sometimes it is better not to mess with small issues like that. If you can live with it (or tint it in yourself), that is better to keep it as is than risking a bigger problem like a leak later!
