I had been considering replacing my 2008 Ram for a while when my wife and I stopped at a Ford dealer in Arkansas to check out the trucks on the lot. Asked a bunch of questions and, low and behold, a new Maverick shows up on the display area in front of the building. A black XLT EB lux just out of prep. Asked our sales person if it was available, (it was April 1st so I was prepared for a joke) but he said yes and we took it for a test drive. LOVED IT! They offered it at $4k over list, but still WAY below other options. My wife, God bless her, said "what's not to like!?" (she hated the Ram) and we bought that Maverick on the spot! However, I did go through a wish list with the sales person and asked if another one ever came available - Lariat, AWD, Lux, FX off road, 4k tow, and 360 (a must) - let me know.
August 28th, I get a call from the sales person - he has exactly what I wished for, but $5k over list. Without seeing it, we closed the deal, at least I thought we did. The sales manager came back and raised the price to $10k over list! Bottom line: the sales person went to the GM, explained that we had already reached an agreement, and the GM overrode the manager.
On August 29th, the sales person delivered the vehicle to my house (a 1&1/2 hour drive into Oklahoma) with a driver to take him back - no additional charge!
The black XLT had 3,750 miles on it and I sold it to the first person that showed up - for $4k over list - the same amount that car max offered and what I paid, excluding the tax. Could have probably held out for more, but the 80 year old guy knew the Maverick inside and out, even better than I did, and he had been looking for a really long time.
