I have not researched it recently, but when these driver-monitor programs first became available, I heard many horror stories about drivers being penalized for abrupt acceleration, speeding, etc when they purposely drove very conservatively trying to appease the monitor. I know one day the insurance mafia will mandate such things, but I plan on being the very last one signed up. No way a 10% discount would get me signed up.
I agree, 1984 is already here, but it is & will continue to get more perverted than Orwell could have imagined. There are just some things a few bucks aren't worth.

Sorry to be off topic, but why in this world would anyone offer this kind of personal information to a large corporation blows my mind.

The more people that do this, the more everyone will be REQUIRED to do this. Need to resist this insurance scam everyone.

So very true, but eventually it will come down to "resistance is futile"

They will probably never make it mandatory, however they will make NOT having so expensive that you cant afford not to. That way they can say it was 100% voluntary.

In the movie "The Fifth Element" the car monitored your driving and gave you points for anything you did wrong. When you amassed enough points the car revoked your license on the spot.

Resist at all costs....

This is right up there paying a corporation $100 and then sending them your DNA to keep on file. It is difficult enough these days to maintain real freedom, so don’t hand it over for a buck.

Is there a difference now between who you sell your data to and who you don't?
One compensates you for it and one doesn't. I guess the pessimistic person would say "might as well get compensated for it if it is going to happen either way".

The more this is acceptable to the general public, the more likely it will be required to get a decent quote - they will pass the need for more revenue on to other insured, until they need more revenue and yours will still go up too.
The bigger part of this is that we would be fools to think the data gathered is secure and more likely sold to the highest bidders.

We use trackers for our large fleet and there is no way in hell I would want that data going to any insurance company. I see no solid reason to chase the carrot being dangled by a group of actuaries playing with algorithms.
