Honestly, between the two I would have preferred the Santa Cruz, I think the Maverick looks better but I've owned Hyundai products and both were flawless in the 60k plus hard miles I put on them. On the other hand, my SIL's 2013 Ford Explorer that she purchased brand new was a nightmare. I'm the family technician and she's the only one who repeatedly came to me for repairs: multiple HVAC blend door failures, A/C system leaks, seized brake caliper, seized idler pulley bearing which shredded the serpentine belt and made a huge mess, bad valve cover oil leak sending fumes into the cabin and finally a coolant leak in one of the turbos at which point I said you MUST get rid of this vehicle, please buy a Toyota. My reason for going with the Maverick? Much better lease terms, if I was buying it would have been the Santa Cruz since I have confidence in their product. Research on the escape and bronco sport forums confirm that Ford reliability with these platforms still is subpar but for a lease I could care less. Controversial opinion for sure but my experience is my experience.

The things they dinged it for doesn’t make sense. It drives like a truck, so they knocked it off for bumpy ride quality. The cost is low, so they knocked off for having to pay more for optional packages but those that don’t need them can save some dollars. Interior may be fair but again doesn’t cost as much as other pricier alternatives, like the Santa Cruz. Not sure what kind of range adjustment they expected in the driver seat or wheel. We’re they thinking about needing to adjust it to the top of the roof, lol. Or better yet, maybe the Edmunds reviewer needed extra room for the stick up his a$&.
Everyone should remember that Edmunds partners with CarMax on used car offers and CarMax sells tons and tons of Kias and Hyndais. Besides they paid extra for the special stick modification on the Santa Cruz to prove it has more features than the Maverick.
