google eco boost engines and you will see it is best to change oil every 3 to 5 thousand on these engines, known fact.

I submit that taking as fact what a bunch of people on the internet say would mean that a lot of things could be considered facts that aren't. Feel free to spend as much money as you want on oil, but this is far from an established fact.

If you cared to research you'd see those people are reliable sources. There are more sources than I can count with established factual data on oil analysis' and optimal ecoboost maintenance in general. And it's not just the 2.0 either.

Even the manual says 3-5k... If you think your engine operation falls under "normal" then you must be 99% highway, never idle, never stop and go, never cold start, perfectly flat roads in optimal weather conditions at all times... etc etc. For the cost of cheaper oil... why not take that preventative measure? It's so simple. It's literally the simplest thing you can do in terms of maintenance aside from changing an air filter.

You do you, but you are going to be walnut blasting the valves a lot sooner than I am, that's for sure.

It IS an opinion, but I think it has enough merit that is should be considered. Oil may have gotten a lot better in the last 20-30 years, but turbo engines run hot enough that oil is used to cool the underside of the piston crown, and that absorbed heat makes the oil run hotter than in just about all normally aspirated engines. IOW, it is getting beat up harder too... The 'The Motor Oil Geek' channel on YT a tribologist by profession, seems to think 10k intervals will not be a 'good choice'.

Exactly. You are free to assume you know how long your oil is good for by guesstimating, but the best solution is to actually test it and find out. FordTechMakuloco has been covering these Ecoboosts for a long time now. It's no secret these engines are best served with earlier oil changes, walnut blasting valves early on, and a little off the engine subject here - but regular PTU and RDU changes as well due to the small amount of fluids in them and specifically with the PTU, it's location (heat). Same with the transmission - every 30k no more than 50k. The 8F35's are not new and the filter is internal... it is NOT easy to change so the best you can do is minimize the amount of crap building up by keeping fresh fluid in there. FTMUL has a video on that as well and it's from 3 years ago! Again - this stuff is nothing new. It's the exact same setups in many FORD vehicles and has been for a while now.

The way I look at it is this: For the cost of a vehicle, a couple hundred dollars in maintenance per year should be expected. If you can't afford said maintenance, then you probably can't afford the vehicle and should reconsider something with a cheaper monthly payment. Given you can get most cheaper oils for $40-50 (including filters) now; 2, 3 or even 4 times a year is still a very cheap "peace of mind insurance" to give yourself.

Anyways, I think we have blown up OP's post. I personally don't care what you do, but disputing the information that exists as random tin foil hat theories is next level complacency. If these people that did it actually got their oil tested and showed any information that concurs with their opinion, it would be one thing - but none of them do! The same cannot be said for those opting for earlier and more frequent fluid changes. They do test, they do show evidence, and that's why the opinion is so highly regarded amongst tech's that actually give a f, like the one I shared and the one you mentioned stating "it's not a good idea".

Personally I enjoy doing the maintenance. Always have and always will.

I have never understood folks getting engine oil analysis on an every day street car - you can’t change the engineering - I can see it on big rigs or race cars but why not spend the money you are using on the analysis for an oil change every 5K -you can’t go wrong ,I’ve been working in the industry for 38 years
And on the original topic / if you happened to check your oil
Level and condition wondering whether to do an analysis and didn’t seat the dipstick properly - it will cause all
That mess and more - develop a relationship with your local dealer by going religiously for an oil change and rotate every 5K - you don’t have to buy all the multi maintenance fluff packages for them to value you as a customer - it goes a long way when needing warranty repairs vs explaining that you only change your oil every 7-10k miles and have them really wonder if you do at all - good luck , keep us posted on what the dealer finds

I thought the oil was supposed to be changed every 3-4k miles.

Ford recommends 5000 miles.

I bet the OP was happy that there was not an "Engine Cover" hiding the oil spray. Might be why Ford Dropped putting them on the Eco Boosts. Just a thought.
