My 2024 XL has to drive a couple blocks before anything happens when I push the drive mode button. Is this normal? Can't it get a clue sooner? Ideally, I'd like to set the mode before I roll away from the curb.

It's because the seatbelt screen on your Cluster prevents you from changing the drive mode. Disable it via forscan or click ok then change the drive mode. You can even look into MYMAVMODE.COM and have you desired drive mode automatically set with a simple install.

AFIK, yours is the only one I've heard of having a delayed input. Mine (as well as most on here who have complained about having to reset it at every start up) do it before driving at start up and is effective immediately. I frequently forget and do it after the first mile or two but, the truck immediately changes to the chosen mode.

The "OK" screens on my Lariat do not prevent me from changing the drive mode, but do make the drive mode selected difficult to see.

Anybody know which drive mode is best for the Ecoboost? I have tried eco and normal and don't see much difference in gas mileage. Has anyone tried the slippery mode and checked the gas mileage? As to the original post above, I have noticed no delay in changing modes. I have even changed modes while driving and it seems to happen as soon as I press the button.

I would just leave it in Normal mode. Eco mode cuts throttle response (which I don't like), slippery mode seems to add more weight to the brake pedal making it travel farther (which is unsettling), and Sport mode is only good for quick accelerations like merging on a highway. However, since I have the FX4, I don't have Eco or Sport. Instead, it's off-road settings like Mud/Ruts and Sand.

I use ECO on my Escape and it is immediate. My hand goes directly from the start button to the mode set button and it changes before I even move. Hope it is the same in my Maverick when it comes.

On my 2022 lariat hybrid I just push mode button immediately after start button the number of times needed for the mode I want ignoring all screens.
In my 2022 XLT LUX hybrid after turning the key on I push the mode button at a slower rate apparently the CPU is not as fast as the lariat CPU plus the XLT requires one additional (wakeup??) mode button push than the lariat (these pushes have to be 1/2 (or so?) seconds apart or the CPU may miscount again ignoring any pop up windows. It is more difficult to get the timing correct on the XLT!!!

2023 XLT and I have the same experience until I push the OK button. Horrible programming.

Yes, I have the same issue. But haven’t tried using the ok button.
