Now that you have done this you are officially a truck guy.

Another way to become a truck guy is to leave the tape measure on the bumper and drive it 50 miles from the jobsite and find it still on the bumper.
and soccer moms is the same with starbucks on the roof... but hey makes more business for me!!!!

I think what we have learned here is don't EVER put ANYTHING on the back bumper. That way there will be no danger of leaving it there and opening the tail gate.

I had a set of Hooker headers on the top shelf of my garage right in front of the Mustang in my avatar. I did all the body work and painted it myself in my garage, color sanded and buffed to perfection.

I managed to tilt the shelving enough (don't ask) the headers ended up landing on the hood denting and scratching the crap out of it. Made my wife cry.

Yep, had to fix, paint and buff it again.
oh dang!!!!!!!! in my explorer ive left tons of stuff on the bumper and then when i go back to it and open the lift gate still there! at least i wont smash a tailgate on it though... have done that too, but with an impact

I was installing my soft roll up cover this afternoon. I had a tape measure to check I had equal length on side rails. Well, I put the tape measure on the bumper and opened the tailgate onto it. Got to small dents from tape measure belt clip. Hard to see unless you’re at an angle and minor paint damage, but I still know they are there. Could’ve been worse I guess.

I then thought I’ll take off the tailgate cover and try to smack them out from inside, but there is a brace that prevents me from getting to bottom of the tailgate where the dents are.

Edit: Here’s a better pic. There are two small impressions. Kind of hard to see except at specific angles.

Yikes, it's not too bad though. One of those dents you'll know is there but no one else will notice.

If I did that to my Maverick, I would sell it :)
Don’t think for one second I did not consider that. I’d make a profit too! 😂
