Does anyone know what this slit is for?

There was a thread about this earlier in the year. It is for the credit card sized card that should have come with your Mav. Mine 23 xlt came with one. Supposedly its for some sort of programming but I have never tried it.

There is a chip reader in there.
It's for the folks that are on the
"Pay As You Drive Plan." (Kind of like the quarter meter plan)
Before they can start their Maverick. They have to insert their credit card. When they are done driving they can pull it out.
It's also used to make your monthly payment.

These are a lot of great answers, but none of them are correct. You have a hybrid. That is the battery cover where you change the batteries when the ones it came with are dead.

My '22 EB didn't have the slot. My 24 hybrid does. It seems redundant as both sunvisors have clips for holding parking stubs, credit card, etc.

I used my slot when I queue up for gas at Costco and get to have my credit card ready. Now Costco has a phone app and I don't use a card.
