I wonder if (at least in the case of the hybrid) the reason the plug won't "officially" fit might be due to something related to the pressure release.. Maybe not.

The Ford website seems a bit confusing. Due to the fact that Ford won't come right out and say it won't fit the Maverick at all.
So I had to do some quick testing of my own with what I had handy.
This is Ford's Universal locking gas plug.
I'm going to assume that the round black plastic area is 4.5" in diameter or thereabouts.

I found my small magnetic Parts holder is 4.30"

It fits perfectly on my wife's Escape.

Ford designed the Mavericks fuel filling area smaller than I'm guessing the majority of their vehicles.

No matter how I placed the tray I could not get it to sit against the filler.

Now without seeing the back side of the Ford locking fuel plug. I can't be sure, but I'll bet that if top and bottom were trimmed it would fit.

I updated and edited my post #35 to include that it may work with trimming.
