So I was about to drop some coin on the tux mats for my hybrid mav.
then I was on on amazon reading reviews where someone posted a video where he says they have a huge flaw, they leak at the grommet where they attach to the floor.

anyone that this experience? is it true? I live in the snowy mountains where lots of snow will melt off my boots. is the water going to leak into the carpet of the floor board?

for the price point of these and love they get from the MTC community I cant see that to be true. but is it?

Deva,
I actually made that review after purchasing them myself. They most certainly do leak at the rivet point. The rivet is hard plastic attaching to hard plastic and is in no way waterproof. However, a lot of mats have this similar design which makes no sense to me. I ended up returning the Tuxmats and got the Smartliner set instead. I am very happy with them, the rivet attachment area is fully covered and watertight (I tested). They are also much easier to take out in the dead of winter to spray off with a pressure washer which I like to do, lastly, they are much cheaper.

Hey Hey I guess it's a small Mav. world! glad to see you on here too.

man I keep going back n forth on these mats lots of love on here for them, many think there the best mod for the mav.
I wonder if they are city folks that dont deal with snow, mud and all manner of mess?

for the price point that seems like a huge flaw. but the "rubber" mats I hear deform so I guess there is no perfect mat.

Had them all winter in Michigan and had no issues. They pooled a bit after the snow would melt from my boots. They have been great for me.

It seems like it would take a lot of snow (more than gets stuck to my sorels) for any appreciable amount of water to get to those spots on the mat.

No offense to reviewer above but in the video you'll note the water runs away from the grommet when you pour it directly on it. It would seem the mat would need to get filled up with water for this to be an issue. I've not had that much water down there yet. If this is a regular occurrence for you I get why you'd want something else.

I've used OEM ford liners, 3dmaxspider, and finally Tuxmat.
The Tuxmats are the best, I've had no issues with water spilling through.

The 3dmaxspider are like 90% as good, but at 60% of the cost.
If I could go back, I don't think I'd have got the Tuxmat simply because the additional cost doesn't seem worth it for the additional coverage in areas that don't get dirty.

I've had puddles on my TuxMats during Montana winters. Never once had a leak.

What you saw in that review is someone dumping water on a spot where it rarely if ever goes. Notice how the water around the area all went forward, because there is a slope? Yet the review claims there is no raise... Even still, drops compared to what was purposely spilled on top of the grommet. Another question is do you regularly put your feet that far back?

Given the coverage, and one person forcefully creating a scenario looking for a leak, I'd say the TuxMats are still your best option. Personally I think that review is a joke. I'm not saying they don't have a point, but it's not as serious as they make it out to be.

There are good budget options, but if you want the full coverage these are your best bet. If Smartliner that uses the same material actually went up all the way along the sides and provided clips to keep them in place, I'd say they would be worth a shot. Personally, I'm done with those hard slippery plastic mats. Husky Liner has some rubber ones but I don't think they make them for the Maverick and again, not the same coverage. I had those in my previous Tacoma and still ended up getting the TuxMats eventually. 3 vehicles now I've had them in for a total of 4 years and at the time of this posting, I see no better option.

Also, what I did since I bought my Maverick used and someone already had the Husky liners, I just replaced the fronts with the TuxMats. The rear of the truck mostly stays clean and I don't have to worry about it. Just food for thought.

To be honest I don't remember and now that you mention it I might be wrong about the price.
