Do dealers not like to take orders?

I went to the Ford webpages and built a Maverick. It was sent to my local dealer. They responded with an e-mail asking for more info. I answered it. They said they'd get back to me soon.

After waiting two weeks with no further contact from that dealer, I cleared the Ford cookies on my MacBook and filled out another build on the Ford site. I sent it to the next nearest dealer. I missed a phone call from them the next day, but sent an e-mail response (I had requested to be contacted via e-mail when I filled out the build form on Ford's website) that I had indeed filled out the build and wanted to proceed via e-mail.

After a week, there has been no response. I can hardly believe I want to order a truck at MSRP and the dealers don't seem to be interested!

Could be the person that does them is out currently or you could be ordering what isn't available anymore so they may not want to bother with it. What build did you try to order?

I had the same experience at my local dealer. I did not see why I had to visit the dealership just to sit there while they entered my pre-configured order but they just didn't respond to emails. When i showed up in person, they were happy to enter the order for me. My guess is that they get a lot of emails that don't turn into sales so they start ignoring them. Car sales people seem to be a mostly lazy bunch.

That's my next step, obviously. But with the COVID numbers going crazy around here and the dealership being 25 miles away, I thought something as simple as ordering could be done easily on line, especially considering there would be no haggling on the MSRP....

I submitted three orders to my local dealer and never got a call or an email. I finally called the dealership and talked to the manager and said I wanted to get a Maverick. They told me to submit online and when I told them I did that three times and never got a call, he told me someone would get back to me. Got an email 30 minutes later and finalized my order.

The original dealer I contacted wanted me to come in, wouldn't agree to price until delivery, etc. Blech, I bailed quickly and contacted a couple of other dealers.

I ended up ordering my truck with Mike Maroone Ford in Longmont, Colorado, through e-mail and a couple of brief follow-up phone calls. No BS. Good dealerships do exist, but you may have to try a few before you find one.
