DIY Custom Hitch Cover for Ford Maverick 2023 (3D print STL file)

Hi people!

As you can imagine I tried to find the best hitch cover, but none of them liked to me, so I designed my own. This model fits perfect on the Ford maverick Hitch, it also covers the annoying sticker and avoids dust, mud, and water. On the other hand provides protection against small hits, like car bumps, or wall hits.

But the best is the "step" on the top, it provides the first step to catch the large bed cover step.

Use TPU filament to print, add supports, and use an infill from 15 to 30%, this will give a great material flexibility.

This weekend I was wondering if I could get my son to 3-D print a Hitch cover and whallah a thread on the subject. The link doesn't work but if you just Google Thingiverse, go to the site and search "Trailer hitch cover" there are pages of designs. Some are really funny. Found the one I want and am directing the kid to, "Git er done".

I have been learning how to operate a 3D printer with the ultimate goal of building one of Nico's hitch steps.

After a fair bit of reading and watching Youtube videos, I printed up the tailgate hole covers and some other small bits.

Today I started on his excellent hitch step design.

The printer suggests that this will be a nine hour job.

It is very cool to have such a useful project to work on.

So I collected the final printed copy last night. The color of the PLA filament is...something...and I will need to pick out the supports and trim the strings, but otherwise Nico's ingenious idea has been realized very nicely.

I am considering gluing a reflector onto the rear surface, which is nice and flat (and a little textured from the painter's tape on the 3D printer bed).

The color may require a little bit of rattle can artistry for the final look, but I am so pleased with this design. Thank you, Nico!

The PLA filament color is even more extra in broad daylight, so I had a quick rummage in the paint cabinet and found this rubberized undercoating.

Two coats of this stuff gave it a bit less of a garish coloration, and the plastic takes the paint nicely.

And of course, it resists rust. Bonus!

So this afternoon I punched the hitch step into the truck.

It is a very low tolerance fit, which means that there is no rattle.

It bears the full weight of two different fat old guys, so all in all a terrific addition to the truck.

Again, Nico, this is a terrific item. Excellent design, tight to the hitch, really nice all the way around.

Yes, that is vinyl that David (Speed2000) cut for me. He did the front grill as well. Very good guy on this forum, and delightful to work with.

Contact NicoBonis, the OP, with regards to the hitch step design. He is the designer of the step, and a very good guy on this forum from whom I have learned a lot.
