Great stuff, but double or triple overlapping sensors bug me. Ford has nothing stopping them from sharing their information used to manage the hybrids. Its the extreme gap in sharing this info to end user. Ran over the curb turning to tight on a turn at a light. For the life of me couldn’t pull up tire pressure. Have seen it on display when tires where cold and registering low. But some items aren’t even on menu til you are in park snd/or key on live but not ready/drive mode.

I have a lot of electronics ideas for my Maverick and some helpful friends with very deep knowledge (dated now ) about how Ford does its (and others at a embedded chipset level )
Part of this is related to the same topics we are discussing, but done in a diy manner.
The reading of those codes are available elsewhere within all cars. Should be possible to tap those for ‘free’ Trying to source off shelf parts that are sized for the cubby hole.
I will see if I can post YouTube channel for the Eastern Europe guy that has most of the tools software and hardware figured out.

Having an issue with my posts being banned / scrubbed for weak reasons, really sure I have already maxed out any reasonable grace number, and kept alive here to see what I am up to.
This idea leads to other ideas, but circling back to why and costs has kept me in nearly early development. The cheap parts are from china and Europe shipping negates benefits cost wise. Currently investing android head unit with a certain ARM based chipset that appear to have enough extra builtin circuits to do this, and built in security (android) can be offset with a single linux based kernel on a sdcard.

This has to be safe to post here. Other ones are very diy to post later if this doesn’t get deleted. Trying to play it safe with site admins.
The software and tools used are not handyman budget types but more familiar to those working within corporate structure .

Torque Pro Android app works well with a cheap Bluetooth OBD2 adapter.

I really like the looks of that. But sadly have never used Android a day in my life, and for me a second dedicated screen was the answer.

Thanks for the tip, just looked at Amazon and found this that works with the Maverick, allegedly:
autophix.jpg

The app is on my phone already and waiting for ODB2 scanner to arrive, let you know if it shows transmission gear as well...
Have you received and installed it? What device are you displaying on? Pics? Thanks.

Yes.
Panlong OBD2 Scanner Bluetooth OBDII Diagnostic Tool Car Code Reader Turn Off Check Engine Light Support Android Torque App https://a.co/d/7DhgvBr

Screen2Auto is required to mirror phone to Mav screen in Android Auto. It can be quite difficult to get working, depending on phone brand, as Google likes to continually block third party apps from working. Ironically, it works on my Pixel 6 pro.

Very economical reader. If could find similarly capable/priced alternatives for iOS could run on spare old iPhone with apple car play on Maverick screen. Promising.

Many phone apps work, but

A) you gotta have the phone
B) you gotta tie up the phone

GREAT option for one time or occasional use.

ScanGaugeIII is ideal for semi-permanent / daily use. But yes with magnetic and suction cup mounting, can easily move from vehicle to vehicle.

It also is a DTC code reader, check engine light resetter, and can tell you in advance if you are going to pass an emissions "smog" test or not.
It's a nice item, but for that kind of money you can buy a fairly decent mechanic's OBD reader that does FAR more than just reset the CEL. Like this one:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09KZTYD18

It really depends on what you want. The scangauge is packaged nicely and is easy to set up and use.

Great ideas everyone, thx!

I am still trying to get my head around Forscan and not giving up on displaying 3-4 engine conditions within the instrument cluster. That would be more than enough for my needs, but in the meantime...

Reprogramming embedded controllers with Matlabs, or with any other third-party software, is way beyond my capabilities. Nor would I experiment with it on my own vehicle, even if I could.

I haven't got my ODB2 scanner yet, but will post pictures once it arrives. Maybe even try to project the display onto the large screen, like Gullzway did on the Android platform. There's got to be a screen mirroring app for the Apple platform too.

Alternatively, just get a used Android phone, no SIM card, and set it up just for app mirroring. That could be a permanent solution and wouldn't interfere with my iPhone. That's actually sounds pretty good for a long term solution...

Thanks again everyone...
