Turbo Hydro was a Turbo 350 or 400 Automatic not a 4 speed?
that was my immediate reaction, too . . .
I did just verify that BW in that era produced 4 speed automatics, and my '57 had one.
I did a search for

"borg warner turbo hydramatic" -ai: "four OR 4 speed"

and got nothing. (well, two irrelevant hits)

However, I'd be willing to believe a BW 4 speed automatic--but why would someone have put that in instead of a manual, given the tech of the time?

I have no idea if the original hydramatic, which was a four speed, could be rebuilt to handle that kind of power. But I don't think a TH400 or TH350 could be built as a four sped (although the 4L80 and 4L60 are pretty much four speed TH400 and TH 350 from GM)

A 454bb sounds and feels like a 454bb though ! our mavericks sound like sewing machines lol
yeah, but can a 454 stick a buttonhole?
🤔

guess you could have put a hydramatic in there(no parking prawl, tough as nails) heard they were used in Sherman tanks( didn't know they went back that far)

I didn't build the car, I just drove it.
Equipment specifications were mentioned in passing by the former owner.
At the time I needed wheels, and the guy selling it needed some cash.

Since I don't have a time machine to go back and ask for details that I didn't care that much about or verify at the time, I can only rely on 50+ year old memories, which include getting wheel spin in 4 gears without shifting. 😉

Yup, I still have timing light, tach and dwell combo meter, vacuum guage. All of it getting quite dusty. Today you need laptop with correct software and OBD connection and plastic panel tools, clamp meter.
Ah yes, the good old days when you could look under the hood and actually do something to get the car running again... How about a points file.. I found one in my toolbox the other day. ;)

Yes, got mine in top drawer of my tool box. Just sits there most of the time, although I have used it for a regular type file on small items. Although I did not smoke, always carried a couple matchbooks in glove compartment. Better than just "eyeballing" those gaps!

It was the first successful automatic (there were a couple of semi-automatics before it).

Introduced in the 1940 Oldsmobile. When it didn't blow up in their face, they put it into the Cadillac, for which it had been meant in the first place for 1941.

Within three model years (the war interrupted), they were in 95% of Cadillacs (the only old car make I'd tolerate one in!).

Anyway, yes, a couple of tank models were fitted with a Cadillac V8 and a hydramatic on each side. (Cadillac made a lot of engines during the war!).

After the war, Cadillac had to put out an advisory not to put the tank transmissions into cars. They fit, and worked, but lacked reverse!

(there was another system in the tanks to switch the direction of power to the treads, as they needed to be able to go full speed backwards)

Traction control + AWD does a lot of work for getting power to the pavement.
I used to have an EV.

Large power to weight ratio.

I once laid down rubber the entire quarter mile. And lost of course.

Traction control was off by mistake and it was 2WD.

You can still get those new old stock points on flea-bay for $12.
It likely helped that they were used across a number of model years.

Likely, the Maverick's parts will be easier to find in the future if the line continues without major changes.

What was the winning car?

I have a '98 Mustang GT convertible.

It seems that many parts are "model T to 1997" and any more are "199-present".

For the same part, with '98 a one year part.

It is so getting replaced with a 60s . . .

(or maybe '05-'09)
