Here in South Carolina, one thing that really bugs me is seeing people driving on cloudy days, rainy days, and foggy days with no lights on. Yes, it is hard to see them and dangerous, also. That is why I support the lights being on. I've even see a few driving at night with no lights on!

Everyone that thinks have the DRL on is going to burn out there LEDs. Led rarely burn out and it is not from use, it is damage, shock, and corrosion to meet the service life on the led diode you would have over million miles on your maverick.

" Daytime running lights (DRLs) are a safety feature intended to reduce crashes by increasing the contrast between vehicles and the background. Currently, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Canada, Denmark, Hungary, and Iceland all require vehicle lights during daytime hours. Most of the studies of the effectiveness of DRLs have been done in Scandinavia. Finland was the first to institute DRL legislation in rural areas, and literature reports a 27% crash rate reduction [1]. In 1977, Sweden started requiring the use of daytime vehicle lights on all roads, and reduction of crash rates from 9 to 21% were reported by Andersson and Nilsson [2]. Norway began to require installation of DRLs in all new cars beginning in 1985 and use of daytime lights on all vehicles by 1988. A 15% crash rate reduction for crashes involving more than one vehicle was later reported by Elvik [3]. Lastly, Denmark has required use of DRLs on all roads since 1990, with a statistically significant 37% rate reduction for crashes involving a left turn in a study by Hansen [4]. A 1995 paper by Theeuwes and Riemersma criticized the odds ratio methodology of all these early studies [6]. In response, a meta-analysis of 17 studies by Elvik estimated a decrease in crash rate of 10–15% for multi-vehicle crashes and total crash reduction of 3–12% "

And in Minnesota they did a study and only during daylight, clear weather, and dry road surface crashes were 1.73 more frequent in non-DRL cars than with. ALMOST TWICE as likely, and that's in good conditions! DRLs are even more effective in dusk/dawn or poor light conditions.

I am an advocate of daytime running lights. Anything that gives me an edge to prevent someone from hitting me.

Let's hope the production quality is better than some of the 12v batteries that they put in these vehicles. If one led burns out you are replacing the whole unit.
The price for the non accented
xl xlt headlight, if and when it eventually fails.

Take care and stay lit if you want.

Just Don't Like the Looks of the Whole lights being Luminated instead of just Partial
Eyebrow type like Most cars are
Also the Price of Replacement If they Burn out Prematurely
Close to $1000 Each

Given that they have a 70-year design life and consume almost no power, why does keeping them on worry you?
Just Was Wondering Everyone's Opinion on these
I don't like the Full light Lumination
I like the Eyebrow Looks of most vehicles
But Not the Whole lights being On
I'm just wondering how Everyone feels about it on the XL models

Yep I agree. While the LEDs themselves have a lifespan that may be considered as “enough"; they will likely outlive the car itself if the circuit and its associated cooling is designed properly — we are talking 10s of thousands of hours of operational life here, at least for the automotive grade ones.
It is more likely that other compoments, like the driver circuit will die before that. Those are quite complex and have many more possible points of failure.
I vote for Illuminating my switchback parking lights for DRL's

Just say No to Headlight DRL's
Choose Switchbacks DRL's 2024.

This. It's not even the LED most times that fails, it's the board they connect to. Too much flux, not enough flux, cheap problematic resistors and improper voltage are what cause failures.

I think everyone here will agree though, that what needs to happen is these vehicle manufactures to allow the user the option of replaceable lighting. This is widespread when it comes to sealed headlights using LED's and they know it works in their favor due to the cost of the headlight assemblies.

I was in lust over the headlights on my previous Tacoma, but if they ever went out there would be no way in hell I'd pay to replace them. I'd grab a set from a lesser model that didn't use the LED's.

Some warranties do cover the headlights, which is nice, but not everyone needs the warranty if they don't plan on keeping the vehicle etc etc. Lots of variables there. And they are not covered from the factory either (I believe, someone correct me if I'm wrong).

It's pretty shocking that we've been this far into this tech and nobody has came up with a better headlight plug and play solution for LED's. I'm convinced it's 100% an attempt by bigger companies to chokehold the market and making every setup just that much different and not utilizing the same features the way previous generations did.

As much as I love the DRL's, and I do have a warranty to replace them, it's one thing that does annoy me after having shed that lust for them realizing it's not true love. Plus, some DRL's are just plain ol gaudy. Some older vehicles that tried adopting the technology failed to use diffusers and they look super cheap. Others have all sorts of crazy designs in an attempt to be edgy. They need to just adopt the K.I.S.S. principle but the fact is - these setups are super cheap for them to make and super expensive for us to replace. There is no incentive for them to change it.

Now run the numbers on replacing the Maverick because another driver didn't see you and you couldn't avoid hitting them when they pulled out in front of you. I know which scenario is going to be more of a PITA.

I agree the XL/XLT DRLs aren't great-looking, but it's kinda difficult to see them from the driver's seat.

What I hated about older versions daytime driving lights. Was equipping cars 50% headlights as DRL's
but not equipping the car with automatic headlights. I can't tell you how many people I would see driving to work in the morning with their 50% DRL's thinking they were auto on headlights. Mind you, they had no tail lights either.
If I had the chance to advise them that they had real headlights. They were amazed at how bright they were.
Take care

Another one is stuff like what Subaru does, and they use their brights but with only 50% power (or something lower). So you get the spread of the brights no matter what. This is why if you see majority of Subaru's that seem like they are blinding you even during the day, it's because their brights are on.

But I live in Montana and I'm convinced that at least 30% of the population doesn't know how to operate any of their vehicles lighting in any condition :ROFLMAO:
