Dashboard Rattle

All of those links are excellent guides to mitigate the rattles/noises coming from the dash. These noises are extremely frustrating and yes, difficult to pinpoint. When driving with my wife as a passenger she hears the rattle on my side, and I hear it on hers. Weather changes bring new rattles or eliminate others. Also frustrating because Ford knows how frustrating they are to Maverick owners yet new purchasers experience them with each new model year. In the 21st century with all of the modern engineering you would think they could figure this out. My 1970 Mustang rattles less than my Maverick did as a new vehicle in the dash area. So it became my mission to get them to stop and they pretty much have. The last thing I'd do is take it to the dealer to locate and fix. You are asking for a host of troubles. The second to last thing I'd do is take the dash off myself. I could do it, but it would be frustrating, I could make it worse, and I probably wouldn't find anything anyway. So I read many of the forums and went to work in the area that seems to be the biggest source and that is the defroster vents. I stuffed backer rod between the windshield and dash and then topped it of with the black rubber stripping found on Amazon that others from this forum have also used to fill the gap. That worked a lot but there was still some noise. Then I forced black plastic wedges that I had that are actually spacers that came from my hardwood flooring installation kit in front of the defroster where it meets the blue dash. They are kind of like shims and even though I shoved them in as far as I could get them in, the ends are exposed some but not really that noticeable. That did the trick. For the past month or so I really haven't experienced my usual vibrations and rattles, but there is still an odd knock underneath, deeper into the dash, that comes occasionally when turning a certain way like into a parking lot. But not always. I'll get to that noise at a later date. So my advice to you is to follow what most people have already experienced and tackle the area around the defroster vents first. I don't know if you can find those black spacers I spoke of for sale, they were just left over from my floor install. My next thought was to buy a pack of wood shims and start wedging them in all over the dash until I found the culprit. I also wedged a piece of the rubber trim between the clear plastic on the instrument cluster and the dash hood behind the steering wheel. Bottom line is, I'm not sure exactly which of these things I did worked, but fingers crossed, it seems much better for now. Good luck.

Ford finally found the rattle. According to the service department, it's an unsecured defrost vent. Car's been in there for over a week. They're still working on it.

I only suspected it was the defrost vent because of other complaints. Otherwise, I would NEVER have guessed that. It did not sound like it was coming from there. My guess the sound was probably ping ponging around and coming out the steering column/ gauge area. That and my ears often have a really tough time figuring out where sounds come from. I hear things fine, but direction seems to be a sense I lack.

I just bought my Maverick last week. 2023 AWD Lariat with the 4k tow package.

I've only had it a week and I'm a bit annoyed with this mystery rattle/noise that's coming from the dashboard.

1. I can't exactly pinpoint the specific area where it's coming from, but my guess is driver's side where the gauge cluster meets the dashboard if that makes sense.

2. Seems to only happen when the left tire hits a bump or imperfection in the road.

3. Only does it occasionally over certain bumps. I will hit many bumps and there will be no noise. Then I will hit a very, very tiny bump and hear it. It will BARELY be a bump and it may cause the rattle. It's almost as if the big bumps won't cause it which is bizarre.

4. The rattle is not loud. I have to have the radio off to hear it.

Doing a few searches, I know that other people are experiencing this issue, but I can't find a forum or thread where someone pinpoints it. I'd bring it to the dealership, and I will if i have to, but I'd rather avoid a dealership since I know what 99% will most likely happen. They won't hear it or say they can't find it. I'm mechanically inclined and if it's a simple fix, I'd rather deal with it on my own.

I had a similar rattle that drove me nuts. Enclosed is a picture of how the problem was solved. It involved placement of a shim. The shim was cut and left with enough length to be able to readily remove if it didn't work. In the picture it looks large. If not known, no one would ever notice. Hope this helps.
