Haha. Yeah. When I was just checking on the micro 3 fuse tap I think I need, they offered to send me their hardwire kit. I don’t think it has that fuse tap though. Did you hardwire yours? Use parking mode? Any info on what you used to do so. would be appreciated.
Get their harness, no it didn't have the fuse taps but it does have a low voltage shutoff built in to the harness. I used mini fuse tap pigtails I picked up likely @ O'Reilly, western union splice onto harness, soldered and heat shrink covered. Needed two sources, one always hot and one switched. I used the box in the pax floorboard and routed up the A pillar. Use a trim tool to pop the factory camera cover off and route new wires from headliner down then hide with factory cover

Camera has two methods to store events, one button will prevent that segment from being over-written, another button takes still shots and saves them.,

Yes on, parking mode - caught a lady backing her very large butt into the hood, no damage but she also set off the alarm and her reaction was hilarious!!!

If you do not have Perimeter Plus from the factory I highly recommend buying the module from fomoco, easy to install and you get remote start from the key fob as a bonus.....

Thx Rentman. Your plus model I believe is only different from the F7N as yours includes an SD card.
What hardwire kit did you use? I don’t think Redtiger’s comes with one that fits the micro 3 fuse to tap into.
Also, is it pretty much out of the driver‘s sight mounted to the right of the rear view window?

You are correct. After I posted I was curious as what the Plus stood for. It included a 32GB memory card. I'm not sure why I ordered the Plus since I already had a larger card that I'm using.

I used this hardwire kit I do see I ordered a Redtiger hardwire kit with the dash cam, but then ordered the kit above about a week later. I am seeing a 40% coupon right now. That makes it a pretty reasonable price.

I mounted mine in the center of the windshield. Most of tit is hidden behind the rearview mirror. This is both good and bad. I like it there because it doesn't decrease visibility or distract me while driving. However, it it kind of hard to play with the controls while mounted. One thing I liked about the dash cam was the somewhat compact size.

Thx - your install and pigtails are what I was planning to do myself. It’s good knowing it worked out for you. 👍

Redtiger offered to send me their hardwire kit for free when I inquired about it having a micro three pigtail. I hadn’t even bought the camera then. I’ll probably see if they will gimme the freebie kit when I buy the dash cam and just pick up the proper pigtail fuse tap.
Their customer service seems good. Nice to know before you buy.

I have a pelsee on sale on Amazon for $60. Like $100 with hardware kit and sd card. It has easy to install and connects to my phone with no problems so I can just show cops the video on my phone. I would definitely get a front and rear camera as many rear accidents have been posted on this forum.

Things to consider. Can you see license plates? How about at night? My 2K VIOFO A119 V3 2K which I got 3 years ago can pretty well. its only front camera I was thinking about getting one for the rear.

I have not the typical setup. I did this on previous vehicle and transferred to Maverick,. I have a Pass through battery in the glove box. Pass through means it can be charged and used at the same time. Camera attached to battery. Then battery attaches to 12 volt lighter with an on off switch which has a digital voltage readout too. So when the lighter power turns off my glove box battery takes over and powers dash cam. So I don't drain anything from car battery. Its a 3 amp battery.

My dash cam has no built in battery so when lighter power goes off there is a slight delay for it to go glove box battery. Less than half a second. But it causes dash cam to cycle to home screen I then turn off dash cam on power button of dash cam. This way its not running off glove box battery at home I don't want it on at home. .

BUT when out parked in lot say at store I do nothing and it stays running off glove box battery I have dash cam to automatically switch to parking mode when it detects no movement by GPS. It compresses video much smaller takes up less space on memory card . But still quality good enough if hit in parking lot I can read licence plate numbers.

OH if you get a VIOFO get the POLARIZER filter it was an add on. Way to much glare without it. Dash cam useless with out.

This guy has the best break down on these cams. Looks like the Redtiger is only decent in the day but does pretty well at night, although it cant read plates very well.

I'd like someone to post a spec on what the best dash cam should look like. Not a big fan of trying to install it myself either, so installation sites would be helpful here In So Cal.

I pulled the trigger and ordered the Redtiger F7NP dash cam and hardwiring materials. Order info/pricing below. I emailed Redtiger’s customer support after ordering and they shipped me a free hardwire kit (these typically sell for $20-$30) after giving them my order # and mailing address. No idea why they do this but that’s a good customer service sign. Their hardwire kits (and I think most others) do not have the Micro 3 fuse taps needed so I ordered a pair on Amazon for $8 w/ 5 amp fuses. The F7NP I ordered includes a 32GB SD card that I think will be fine though you can order the cam w/o this and get a larger one on your own. The cam just overwrites over oldest unsaved footage on the SD card as needed.
Total spent - about $135 less my particular state taxes.
May get everything and have time to install this weekend.

Please document. I have the same camera and haven't had time to dig in.
You have link to the fuse taps? I search by the exact description, but it didn't find them.
Thanks

Did install today. Used 1 micro3 fuse tap for accessory power to fuse slot 1/2 and a micro2 fuse tap for constant power (parking mode) to fuse slot 24. 5 amp fuses in each.
Ran wiring up A pillar, under headliner, and under trim of the vehicle front camera across to my front dash cam spot. Removing glove box made it easy to get right to A pillar.
Ran wire under interior trim along the bottoms of the passenger doors and under the trim in the back passenger corner up to the headliner for the centered rear dash camera. Tricky part was the light colored trim holding the rear speakers and seat belt slot. Found a 6 mm bolt to remove from that that gave me the room to get the wires behind it and up to the headliner.
Most of the work is in running the wiring. I imagine most of us non professionals succeed by just taking our time.
Connected to app and all seems good. Clean install and camera seems to work fine.
Pics are all there is to see of the project once installed.
I might cut notches in the black trim above the rear mirror for the wires to fit through. As is, this trim isn’t quite pushed back in all the way against windshield with the wires there but I like them there better than than coming all the way down from the headliner

It's actually shocking how many dashcam manufacturers use the same exact cameras.

Just some info for future readers:

Dashcams make a huge difference. If you don't have one you are vulnerable. However, they also incriminate so take from that what you will. Most cases though, if you have the evidence then it's pretty hard to argue against it.

As for what cameras? Check BlackBoxMyCar.com They are reliable and have done a good amount of testing (essentially the RTING's of dashcams) and they offer a "best of" list that's pretty straight forward. If you need/want parking mode, I suggest a battery pack which they also offer and it's one of the cheapest on the market currently for what it offers.

In todays world, better safe than sorry. I've had my Viofo setup with a battery pack for a while now and no real complaints, although, you can find cheaper dashcams that do just as good maybe even better in some scenarios.

Lastly, as others have said - never submit more than you need to. I personally do not display speed info but time/date and even GPS location can be useful. You can always crop what you don't need/want to submit too in most scenarios. No reason to submit a 10 minute clip if it's a fender bender that took place at a stop. And keep in mind that no dashcam handles moving license plates very well, so you may have to edit to sharpen images sometimes.

As for installation, once you do one, they are all generally the same. Running wires is simple enough and all you need to do is find the correct fuses. OBDII is not recommended for obvious reasons as it's easily unpluggable and takes up that spot. You can also get brackets that mount to some dashcams that make it impossible without tools to unplug at the camera's themselves. Viofo makes some for theirs.
