Good morning all new guy here we ordered our xlt turbo in November but still no word on build date, we are thinking maybe we should have got a hybrid. We do a lot of traveling with our motor home and thinking of towing our new truck. We have a dolly which would work great with the front wheel drive not so much with the awd. The reason I never went that way at the start was the ctv transmission. I’m sure most have heard thier track record has not been good In other makes. The turbo engine, more torque, would not be kind to it and I’m sure that’s why Ford elected to go with a 8 speed traditional trans Behind it. We bought this truck for very light work as we have a hobby farm with a few small animals so a bale of hay would probably be the biggest load it would see and of course normal grocery shopping. This has me thinking a hybrid would do fine. I would like to hear from real world owners of the hybrid to chime in on thier thoughts.

Ecvt design is in the Mav. It uses very simple planetary gears. Not the jatco belt type you're thinking about. Same design as in toyota hybrids. Ford partly developed it with Toyota and licensed the design for their previous hybrids. Now they are being built inhouse. Completely bullet proof just like the 2.5 duratec it's attached too. If I was a betting man I would put money on the hybrid out lasting the EB/8 speed every time. Not that it's a bad system either. This is info you're sales person should have known.

It's not a cvt on the hybrid but an ecvt. Big difference. Planetary gears vs the rubber band feel of a conventional belt driven cvt. Basically bullet proof and from what everyone is saying it performs well.

It’s too late to change to the hybrid for a 22 model year retail order, so you may as well be happy with the Ecoboost order.

ETA: As noted by others below, hybrids are still available to order in Canada (at least as of the date of this post).

If you are thinking about switching to a hybrid you will need to wait tell August to order a model year 2023. The eCVT in the Ford Maverick will be a 5th generation design, not much change over the 4th though. The new design has a different style electric motor. The first two generation were built by Aisin and the 3rd generation was the first built in house by Ford. Fords first attempt left many people with 2013-2016 vehicles with a faulty bearing. There is a technical service bulletin. Since that issue there hasn’t been any thing else problematic to my knowledge. The basic premise and components all look like copies from gens 1-4, haven’t seen the inside of gen 5 yet.

An eCVT is tremendously simple compared to a regular transmission. Hundreds less moving parts and things to go wrong. The design could nearly last forever with good care. Their crypto-night is excessive heat. If you run them hot a lot the fluids need to be changed or the transmission will fail. Running hot by towing, mountain driving, 110 degree day drives (I live in Arizona). Otherwise their a marvel of technology. They come with a 8 year 100k mile warranty too.

Now your up the speed on the eCVT and it’s history.

Its an eCVT not cvt. No belts or gears, it's planetary. I own a Hybrid, took delivery on Jan 3rd.
I drive about 85% hwy, hwy speeds that exceed 80 mph for long distances and have zero issues. I also drive on hilly, curvy roads of asphalt, rock, dirt etc and again, no issues. The ecvt operates perfectly at all speeds and conditions. It is excellent in stop & go traffic. I haven't towed with it yet, but will and I'm not concerned about it at all. The horsepower is more than enough and the instant torque from the electric motor is quite surprising, it just goes & keeps going, with no effort! I have yet to find a situation that the powertrain couldn't handle. The transition from ICE to electric & back again, is seemless. I mean you don't even notice it's so smooth and quiet. I'm very pleased with my Hybrids performance.

I need to let you know I had never owned, ridden in or drove a hybrid of any kind prior to my sight un seen purchase. I was looking for a reason to dislike the ecvt coming from traditional transmissions and also was looking to hate the hybrid system in general. I also listened to the negative comments coming from every corner of the internet but, I'm happy to report I have no regrets, love this truck and may never go back to a regular set up again! Ford nailed the design of this truck...If what I described above, sounds like what your hybrid might experience, then I say go for it, It's super awesome!

Think about accepting the EB. Order a Hybrid as soon as possible when it comes in sell EB, buy Hybrid. Depending on the current state of affairs you may make some money, brake even or lose very little. You will also get to experience the XLT maybe you will be happy with that or the Lariat may become more appealing.

The highway aspect sounds identical to how I'll be driving mine. What kind of mpg do you get at those speeds?

Im getting 38.6. on this tank I'll get 528 miles according to the gauge, which Im almost there with 149 miles left. I put 13.64 gallons in @ fill up and had less than 10 miles left from the dealer tank. That equals = 38.7 that's dead on with the gauge of actual gallon pumped verses miles driven! 😁

What kind of mileage are you pulling down? I have a hybrid coming and I roam the Texas highways similar to your approach. Wondering what to expect.

Thank you.

My fuel economy is fantastic! My average is 38.6. on the gauges. I'm currently testing actual mile's driven with the 13.64 gallons I put in over a week ago. Right now, I'll get 528 miles out of this tank according to my gauge if it holds and I have no reason to doubt it. That puts me, with real word gallons to miles driven @ an outstanding 38.7 which as you can see is dead on with my trucks gauge average. I'll update once I refuel but I have no reason to believe it won't achieve those numbers. I write down my trips actual miles driven at every stop. Rather than relying on the total miles driven or estimates of the gauges to keep it accurate.
Either way it is fantastic and I can't say enough good things about this powertrain!
