Does anyone here have any knowledge or experience, with the long-term positive effects of electronic corrosion control modules that are attached to a vehicle? I saw one at the local Ford dealership and thought that may be the route to go with protecting my new Maverick when it arrives. Currently I have my 26 yr old truck oil sprayed every year, but 10 years of that would certainly pay for a corrosion module.
Are they worth the money?

I'm in southern Ontario where literally tons of salt is used each winter.

Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

My uncle had a dealer installed electronic corrosion module on his S10 back in the 80's. It didn't work back then and I doubt that it's any better today. Crown, Surface Shield or Fluid Film spray will work better than electronic corrosion prevention.

I use noxudol. The same stuff Volvo and Toyota use now. I've had good results. I live in NH where we use salt. I've never seen good results with the electronic devices. They still show up at the shop with rust. Cavity wax products are your best bet.

It works in theory. But high school chemistry and physics classes told me that once the electrons start flowing, the rust that forms can't really be stopped. Using the yearly oiling certainly slows the process to a crawl, but once rust starts, it doesn't stop.
The electronic modules can't work in something as complex as an automobile because there are simply too many materials, some very insulated from other components, for the module to cover all possible sources of the moving electrons.
Also, installing the module has to be done correctly. I once found a module wired directly to the 12V battery, bypassing the circuitry that shuts off parasitic drains in a Malibu that sat a great deal. The battery would mysteriously drain and had been replaced twice by the dealer. Disconnecting the module stopped the drain and the car, which still sits for months at a time, has had no further problems.
IMHO, the systems are over-priced snake oil which are highly profitable for unscrupulous dealers. I have used Krown for years and currently have a rust free 2008 Ranger in addition to my 2024 Maverick. The Ranger is a Canadian truck and has faced 16 winters so far.
