I'm in the process of setting up my '24 hybrid XLT. Primarily, that means transferring or installing those items I had in my previous two Mavericks. I have to admit there are several new items to be added to this truck. Today, I installed one of those, a center console safe. I was not anxious to pay Ford's asking price for their safe. Luckily, I found a made for Maverick safe on AliExpress. Their price with free shipping was under $100. The same safe can be found on eBay for around $140. Mounting is easy with no drilling required. Fit is great. It has the volume to take the items I intended for it.. One feature I especially like is that the safe sits low enough that I can still use the top portion of my console organizer. I don't lose all my storage and actually camouflage the presence of the safe. There is a trick or two I learned during installation. Send me a PM if you head down the same path. Nice! I have the console vault for mine, which I purchased directly from the manufacturer instead of through ford, at a discount. Haven't installed it yet, but your photos point out something I was concerned about. I had heard the room above the lid wouldn't allow for a tray, this seems like a nice solution for that, but what about the scratches? Were those from the install of this vault? I'm hesitant to install mine, for that reason.

Yes, I was installing without the benefit of instructions. At one point I assembled the unit loosely and tried to force it into position. A NO GO! From what I have seen, the other safes out there are too tall to allow a tray to fit on top.

What holds it in place? From the photos its just a top piece that fits in the top of the console, not a whole box?
What stops someone from just yanking the top part out?
Is the one from Ford the same way?
Just curious? Not sure we would ever use one, but it would be good to know if we decide to get one.

I don’t agree with the assessment that this safe is worthless. A thief with a minimum amount of time, a simple pry tool, and not caring about the damage he will cause to my truck could get to its contents without much trouble. That is not what I’m trying to deter or defeat. I often transport my grandkids and great grandkids. All are of an age where curiosity might get the better of them if I’m not in the vehicle with them. This safe is adequate for that concern.

The unit is comprised of four pieces. The fitted bottom piece has four small attached bolts to accept two sides that attach with lock nuts. The hinged top fits between the two sides and is attached by screws. It must be assembled in an order. Otherwise, it can’t be made to fit. It can not be just assembled and dropped in or just lifted out.

I was lucky. I was at ford to buy mud flaps and the service rep I was working with gave me a center console safe for free. He said someone ordered it and Ford sent two. 👍

Hi Jim. I'm trying to figure out how it is secured in place. From the pictures, it looks like it could just be lifted out? Is there anything that secures the bottom parts to the inside of the console?

I just got the safe that goes under the rear seat and I'm really happy with it.

On the Console Vault (Ford OEM) version, the bottom is lowered into the console, its sides are folded out, and the top is placed over it and bolted together in place from inside. Once bolted together inside the console, it's much larger than the console's opening so it can't be lifted out.

Then there are (4) additional cutting-tipped bolts that are screwed outward piercing the console locking it into place. All hardware is under the top and completely hidden once the top is closed. It does not scratch the console during installation. Installation takes 10 minutes....

I actually like the idea of the safe. Having had several of my cars broken into and my registration data used to breach my personal data I no longer carry ANYTHING in my cars. Open my glove box or center console and there isn't anything there! But being able to lock up my stuff would be good. Thing is, thieves these days will still rip out the safe and worry about breaking into it later. But I still like the idea.
