I’ve owned multiple fords all of which have been older, I’ve noticed that when going into the next gear the rpms slightly rise and you can feel the car jerk a little nothing crazy. Is this just a quirk of these 8 speeds or could it be some kind of slipping? Like I said I’m used to my old f150 kinda just locking into the next gear instantly

Seems the revs drop a bit as you move to a higher gear - that is completely normal for gears.

If you’ve ever driven a belt driven CVT you’d feel a monotonous nothingness that would have you lusting for the Maverick’s shifts.

That said, I have the 7 speed EB and drive in Sport/Manual mode. What drive mode are you using using?

Most of the time I drive in eco which seems to be better but this was in normal, I get that the rpms drop but I don’t understand is why it bounces a little bit during the shift like the rpms go up by like 200 and then back down

Oops I was wrong when I said that rpm’s increase when shifting to higher gear…the opposite is true.

Rpm’s drop when shifting to higher gear - then they will increase. Sorry for not answering your question or worse yet - answering incorrectly.

It’s all good I just wanted to get a second opinion on it, I'm used to shifts that feel like it’s slamming into gear and not almost floating smoothly 😂

Maybe you were spoiled by your previous Big Trucks? At least your Maverick is easier to get in & out from:)

Your words are describing slipping transmission clutches. But I’m not seeing that in the video. And I’m not hearing any sound with it. Sound is useful because you can hear a change in engine note if the transmission is unloading the engine while shifting.

My ecoboost definitely does not increase rpm during the shift.

Did you check your transmission fluid level?

My experience with the 8F35 and the Ford transmission shift strategy is that is anything but smooth.
I have tried to adjust my throttle management habits to suit the vehicle. For example, I don't rest my foot on the gas when cruising at low speed due to the constant engine lugging. I am either on the gas or off it. At 25mph and below I generally switch to tow/haul drive mode.
When accerlating I never (hardly ever) mash the throttle. I give it enough gas to build some boost and then go. Otherwise I get a very jerky speed increase.
I am guessing a lot of the shift weirdness is due to the fact that the max input rating of the 8F35 is 260 ft. lbs and the 2.0 is outputting 277 ft. Lbs. Ford probably had to compensate or account for that WTF decision in their programming.

Resetting the adaptive shifting tables with Forscan does wonders, especially after doing a drain and fill. At least in my experience.

I have the eCVT and it's super smooth, a delight to drive. Kinda cool with the revs matching the load perfectly. If I want to shift and cheat death I ride my 6 speed motorcycle or 5 speed Miata.

The eCVT is not really a CVT. Much better than a CVT. It has gears!:)

The belt driven CVTs have a whole different “feel”.

The only CVT’s I have driven have been eCVT’s.
and how is it that they are not real CVt’s? They do indeed have a continuously variable ratio. And they are indeed transmissions.

Claiming that it’s not a real CVT because it doesn’t have a belt drive is like saying the camera in your phone isn’t a real camera because there is no photographic film in it.

I’m mistaken, you’re right - eCVT’s are CVT’s. They both suck.

Just kidding. I had one of the best CVT’s in my Corolla Hatchback. Actually had a physical launch gear before kicking into belt drive. Personal taste, but I prefer the 7 speed auto in my Maverick!
