Bought oem ford remote starter and long range remotes need help.

I recently bought a 2026 ford maverick xl with 2.0 ecoboost and awd. It has a touch under 400 miles on it. It didn't come with remote start. (Yes, I know there is the ford pass app but I don't trust the app.)

So I went on the ford accessories website and ordered the perimeter plus vehicle security system and long range remotes.(see pictures for part numbers).

My two questions I have about installing this system are 1. Where is the gateway module plug located in the vehicle? and two how do I program the long range remotes to the vehicle? Note: I do have a keyed ignition.

P.S. I think it's stupid that ford doesn't provide any instructions on how to install this remote starter.

The gateway plug is located in the passenger footwell/kick panel area, and long-range remote programming requires specific button sequences or an antenna/module learn mode depending on the exact accessory kit.

Adding Key Fob Remote Start (2022 XL)
"Key Start Vehicles:
1 Start with ignition key OFF, doors unlocked and VSS system DISARMED.
2 Open driver door (remaining open throughout).
3 Place shifter in the PARK position (remaining in PARK).
4 Depress and hold the brake pedal.
5 Cycle ignition key ON then OFF 5 times, then back to the ON position a 6th time.
* The horn will sound 3 times to indicate transmitter learn mode access.
6 Press and hold the remote start button for 3 seconds on each fob you wish to program (horn will sound indicating successful programming).
7 Cycle ignition key to the OFF position to exit transmitter learn mode.

The attached instruction includes instruction for the Long Range Remote Start Fob which is an addition purchase. But the Maverick fob that comes with the truck will operate the remote start and activate the VSS. As such, the VSS kit comes with an Owner's Manual that provides more information. For instance:

1. You arm the VSS with the key fob that comes with your Maverick when you lock the vehicle, and obviously disarm the VSS when you unlock the truck.
2. Instructions are given to remote start the truck with your Maverick Key Fob, which they call the Remote Keyless Entry Transmitter (RKE). Again, pretty simple. To remote start with the RKE that came with your truck you:
1. Press lock button
2. Press unlock button (within 3 seconds of pressing lock)
3. Press lock button (within 3 seconds of pressing unlock)."

Hello again, I got the panel off and see the plug. I see it covered by a metal plate that you have to bend out of the way. (See pic)

Why did ford do this? It seems to me that they don't want anyone touching this plug. I hope ford knows that some customers are not going to pay a dealer to install this system. So why make it so complicated to get to the plug.

Hello, I got the remote starter installed and following the programming steps that are laid out by blue spec one. I got both extended range remotes working. Thanks everyone for the help.
