Most are powder coated fron the factory
I noticed mine had a thick layer on top (stone chips on a couple of wheels), that's why I thought it wasn't powder coated. Wish it had a harder shell on the wheels.

I have been having "What if I rattle canned the wheels?" thoughts but some ideas in here are better. I don't want the BAP in full, but I disfavor the look of those wheels when bright. Partially because they look too close to the wheels that came on those cheapass diecast cars that came in packs of five for a buck, or 25 for $5 or something. (Not the Maisto or whatever they are called, which were cheap until they gained some rep, no name china ones)

I have a guy here in town that I may have powercoat my wheels with chrome powder... I like shiney wheels.

He is building his own powder oven right now.

BTW... what is BAP?

Where did the guards at the bottom of the doors come from? Are they actually functional?
Side guards are off the Ford accessories website. I had ordered the paint matched narrower side guards but the paint wasn't even close! So I sent them back.

Well, I really did not like the silver trim on the bottom of my Lariat Mav, so I finally devoted a little time to sand and repaint! Lots of taping but I got the look I want with Gloss Black on all the areas that were silver! Now
Ford Maverick BAP My Way! Powder Coat the wheels! front 2
ready for a special nudge bar if I can find one that works! BEFORE.

AFTER! While I was sanding I found out that the guys who put the clear protective film on the front had put it on the silver. Luckily, they had cut it perfect to fit only the silver so it wasn't too hard to remove. Boy that is thick ! As you can see I have joined the cracked windshield team. I have 2 years to go on my inspection sticker and I would have to re-tint the new windshield so I'm gonna wait and see how bad it gets!

No the hood deflector is smooth gloss black. Hood treatment is black carbon fiber wrap.

In the actual Factory BAP you also get black side mirrors, blackened "FORD Ovals", the BAP Taillights and Grill.
You get all of this except the grill on Lariats

I lucked out, I bought a set of BAP 19s with practically new tires and TPMS sensors for $500. Cheaper than powder coating my wheels, and I got a set of tires too

The texturing one must match your wheel fenders all around

I wondered about powder coating the wheels because of the heat. But I guess a lot of folks do it. A nice clear coat sounds good tho.
That was my initial concern as well. I'm not aware of any OEM that powder coats aluminum wheels. They are always painted from what I've seen, probably in part because the A356-T6 alloy that is common in low-pressure gravity-cast wheels starts to anneal at about 400F and powder coat is baked on at around 350F-400F. Even baking on low-temp powder coat (250F or so) can start temper loss in T6 aluminum if held at that temperature for long enough.

I haven't heard of any failures that can be directly attributed to powder coating and then something like a curb or pothole impact, but I'd rather not risk barrel failure on wheels that are wrapped in low-profile tires. For me, I'd just take the wheels to a body shop and get them painted.

I had a 16' Tundra that had a dull plain plastic grill. The cost for replacement grills were ridiculous, so I took it to Line-X. They sprayed the black bed linner coating on the grill, wheel center hubs, and side steps. The wife loved the side step bar since her foot didn't slip. Cleaning was very easy. Turned nozzle to jet spray and all bugs and dirt came off.
The truck was one of a kind and looked great. Line-X can be applied to anything...think outside the box.

Great idea! I may try that if I get my Nudge Bar. Very expensive?
