Well, I ordered my Edsel… I mean Maverick in September and still have no build date. Ford engineering did a great job taking parts of other vehicles and putting this truck together… unfortunately they gave it to Ford Marketing before engineering the manufacturing process. So plenty of people ordered and Ford can’t produce and absolutely refuses to tell its customers anything except…. You can’t order a hybrid or an ecoboost until late summer early fall. By then the Maverick may go the way of the Edsel. Customers are disappointed and some are downright angry.

If you truly believe it's another Edsel, then cancel your order. Or when you get it, flip it.

I'm still waiting for a schedule date on my XL Hybrid, ordered on June 17, 2021. Do I wish I had it? Of course! Is there another truck out there with the same or better capabilities, MPG, size, and price? No! The Santa Cruz is a gas hog in comparison and costs a lot more, when compared to my almost stripped XL.

So I wait, but it's definitely no Edsel, to me. I am sure I'll get it delivered by Thanksgiving, 2022, and when I get do eventually get it, it will be worth every penny. If you are tired of waiting, there are alternatives. I expect Ford to build around 75,000 for this model year, with 30,000 or so of those being hybrids. I know I'll be one of the lucky 3,000 or so owners of the basic XL Hybrid, eventually. (I never use cruise control anymore, so it's all good with me.)

Ordered mine last June and its just arriving this week. Not unexpected with the global chip shortage and supply line disruptions. Heck its a 28-32 month wait for a Porsche so 6 months from ordering and 3 months from manufacturing in this climate on a brand new model isnt that bad. Heck I was looking for new IPads for Christmas and started hunting in October and it still took me to the 2nd week of December before I received them. This is the world we live in, like it or not....

Majority of the reviews I have read people are pleased with the Maverick. I'm not sure I have read a negative review. I totally get your disappointment with the ordering process.

The Edsel was a poor seller, the Maverick is a hot seller. So I'm not sure why you're calling it an Edsel, but if you really feel this way why in the world don't you find a vehicle to buy that pleases you?

I love everyone’s Maverick, I would love my own, if it ever gets built… but clearly Ford has issues, and not just from supply side. Ford has shown themselves to have extremely poor communication skills. They have created a vehicle that they simply refuse to discuss with their customers. Lack of parts/chips or whatever is no reason not to be honest and forthcoming about the problems. Had it not been for Tim Bartz and a few others this forum would have absolutely no information on what is actually happening. The Edsel failed because of its customer based, granted it was refreshed for 1959, but by then customers lost interest and Ford Marketing blamed customers. The Maverick Is well designed, wonderfully priced and yet Marketing is terrible, with a total lack of communication. Ford refuses to speak, that’s their choice, but I believe we all would be much happier with an honest email explaining what they are doing too fix the problem. Simply saying “we are not taking any more orders doesn’t make anyone feel better, in fact it makes it worse.

I love how people think Ford decided last June to sell a Maverick and then voila, started taking orders. Please understand that development of this vehicle to include sales projections started even before COVID happened. Nobody could have predicted the way things have gone across the world. Nobody. OP do you realize that you have to farm out much of your production to subcontractors? Batteries? Tires? Chips? Do you realize that you don't just order parts from them on a whim? Do you realize that you make sales projections and then submit orders to your suppliers well in advance so they can acquire materials from their suppliers and make the parts you need? Do you think they just have infinite inventory laying around? Do you realize that costs money and nobody does that? Seriously, the amount of whiners out there who cannot comprehend what a number the pandemic and ensuing supply chain crisis has done on manufacturing for anything let alone a vehicle that far outsold it's intended production numbers is unbelievable. I feel bad for Ford, I really do. If you don't like it buy something else!

Nothing you mention refers to the total lack of communication that Ford has showed its customers. Parts, shipping, chips, Covid have absolutely nothing to do with Ford contacting the thousands of people who ordered the Maverick, and for that matter the Bronco to explain what is going on. No FOMOCO explanation of Dealer Allocations, constraints or anything else regarding orders submitted.

Maybe Jim Farley will see this and hire a sky writing plane to spell out "supply chain crisis" for you over your house.
