one of my concerns is I would like to make the exhaust a little safer when I am driving in semi-combustible areas? Will lifting help? Don't know if the tailpipe under the rear axle area raises with the body or not.

Not sure what you mean by 'semi-combustible area' BUT shielding the cat would give a layer of protection if you're concerned about dry vegetation. Deters cat thieves too.

The tailpipe will stay with the body if you lift the truck.

Shielding heat sources will be your best bet. Maybe drive it hard, put it on a lift, and then locate hot things with an infrared thermometer.

If you're talking post harvest stubble and tall grass, you may want to look at aero-gel pipe wrap or something similar.

Just skid plate the whole thing all the way to the tail pipe. Doesnt have to be thick. I dont have any sheilding on my comanche and often use it push down cane grass. Never had a fire. Often smell a lil something then just pull out the weeds. But yeah just skin the whole underside. But dont forget to pull it and wash it out every year, especially after winter if you get salty roads.
