Those boomers were spoiled! Back in my day we got around fine on one horsepower, uhm, horses. Sometimes no horsepower at all if you only had oxen for your wagon. The only Ford we had was a shallow section of a river to cross. And if a family member or two died of dysentery on the trail, we didn't sit around and mope about it.What the heck of folks doing that needs so much power?
The Rangers & S-10s from the 80s served our Grandpas fine with 4bangers that were <150hp.
Sure, remind me of our shame. We rode in the backs of trucks with the dog, cooler and 200 lbs of tools loose. Now it’s illegal to even have the dog back there in many places. Soon probably the tools tooHey now, it was your generation who raised us![]()
My dad had a Jeep Comanche pickup back in the day, old even then, and he'd come pick us up from the pool and we'd get third degree burns if our hands slipped off the towel when he was taking fast turns because the black painted bed was in the sun all day. No cares given by the "responsible" adult. He did his first solo flight in an airplane at 14 and scraped lead paint off of buildings in the summer to pay for it. Its surprising how many of them lived to old age.Sure, remind me of our shame. We rode in the backs of trucks with the dog, cooler and 200 lbs of tools loose. We did a road trip from Virginia to Alaska, as a family of 4 in a regular cab Chevy Cheyenne. The only two positives, are: my dad had a carpeted truck bed, and a nice campershell. Negatives, we rode next to the gas can, chainsaw, pee bucket, and no A.C.My dad had a Jeep Comanche pickup back in the day, old even then, and he'd come pick us up from the pool and we'd get third degree burns if our hands slipped off the towel when he was taking fast turns because the black painted bed was in the sun all day. I imagine if taking a poll, most people would say that they survived. Not too many corpses raising their hands from the grave to chime in.We survived, what's wrong with the rest of this generation of Millennials?
Turbo with AWD & towing package will be plenty fast, especially for a truck. Heard they are getting 0 to 60 in under 6 seconds, & I think better in Sport Mode. Truck, Crew Cab, good MPG, sporty, low price & great in snow etc. what more can you ask for.Curious if anyone else ordered the 2.0/AWD that has their fingers crossed for decent power. Hoping that this thing won’t be a dog. The 2.0 turbo and AWD combo could be a decent road performer. But the Maverick is pretty long and might be a little underpowered for the curb weight. I’m sure a tune would wake it up a little. But the small engine and even smaller turbo have their limitations
I don't have AWD but I certainly do not lack for power. In the words of a poster months ago "The Maverick passes with ease". 0-60 is great, 60-90 is even better.Yeah, I know the old stuff is slow by comparison. But it’s still slow by today’s standards.
Yeah, and had to walk to school. Five miles there and 10 miles back, uphill both ways, knee deep in snow and 90 degrees. Those boomers were spoiled!
