I'm looking at getting a tonneau cover to provide a covered cargo area to keep rain and wind off stuff like groceries and whatever else I might be carrying. (I've seen the many threads about water intrusion and I understand nothing is likely to be completely watertight.) Price is definitely a factor. I'd like to have the full bed length available above the rails if needed, without removing the cover completely, so I'm looking at soft roll-up covers or might consider a tri-fold if it folds flat against the back window. (I'd love a retractable hard cover, but can't justify the >$700 price.)

For context, I recently traded my 15-year-loved Honda Ridgeline for a '24 Maverick. I love the Mav but I'm missing my in-bed trunk. 😁

I've seen some off-brand or no-name tonneau covers on Amazon for around $160 and on eBay as low as $120. As they say, you get what you pay for, so while the price is tempting, I'm concerned about the quality and durability over time. Has anyone had any experience with these, good or bad? Or can you recommend a cover under $200? I'll be shopping Prime Day deals this week, so hopefully some will come down in price. It's not a need per se, just an upgrade, so I want to keep the cost down as much as I can while getting something that won't turn out to be cheap junk.

My experience is every time I go cheap, I regret it. I had a cheap cover on a Tacoma. Got rid of it and got a Bakflip. I have had 3 Bakflips now. Save up for a name brand cover.

I bought a generic hard tonneau on eBad. We have harsh winters here and I needed something that would handle heavy snow loads without sagging. Think I paid about $350. I'm happy with the purchase so far.

As far as water leakage, I think it's less what type/brand of tonneau you purchase but how well weatherstripped it is. On mine there was some leakage especially after washing the truck, but I bought an inexpensive roll of automotive weatherstripping and have it pretty much completely waterproof now. Adding a 4" rubber tailgate gap strip made it pretty much dust proof too!

Hope you find what you need!

I have this one I got from Amazon. I was easy to install and hasn't leaked through several severe rainstorms and carwashes and was under $200.

MostPlus is just a name that is stuck on a very generic three panel, bi-fold hard bed cover. There are most certainly other brands that are the same cover.
2 years ago when I bought it was $349
Holding up just fine.
No drainage tubes.
I haven't put any additional weather seals on it and yes if I go through a drive-through car wash there is leakage, not bad.
You didn't ask but it can be folded and removed by myself in about 7 to 10 minutes. I'm 70
I bought it because it was hard, meaning it can't be sliced open for kicks by some jerk with a .99 cent box cutter and it was affordable for the intended purpose of keeping stuff from flying out of the bed of or being picked out by some low life.
Good Luck

Happy with my Tyger soft roll-up. Was $205 on manufacture website. Signed up for newsletter and got 10% off. Came to $185 delivered.

I also have the MostPlus hard trifold cover. It's great, no complaints. Mine was $280 or so with free shipping from Ebay.

Notes:
-I didn't install the included weatherseal on the sides, and there are almost NO water leaks when I wash the truck, or in rain.
-On a very dusty dry dirt road I did get dust inside (may not be the cover, it might be the tailgate and front breather holes)
-the way it attaches takes away the ability to put on racks without fabricating some sort of side extension; and the rack would have to have enough clearance to allow the cover to fold to open. Assuming you need to open it for some reason.
-yes, you can stand on it without any sign of damage.

Ditto. Mostplus from ebay. Very slight leaks in very hard rain. Otherwise no problems. I'm happy with it.
