I'm looking to add ether a 3/8 thread or a NMO type antenna mount to my Maverick after receiving it.

Has anyone else done this yet? Where did you put the mount and run coax?

Thanks

Did you church the owner's manual? It shows general locations for antenna mounts.

Lots of options. Bed mount, hood lip mount, hood gap mount, roof mount, etc. I think I would be inclined to mount it somewhere on the bed with an L-bracket and drill a hole in the back of the cab. There is no gap between the bed and the cab so drilling through the cab let’s you avoid any items mounted to the back of the cab. Then run the cable under the carpet to the front of the cab and your radio. The antenna will be compromised with the cab blocking the signal to the front. Of course the best place is on the cab roof but fishing the cable through the headliner will be a little trick. The height may have you whacking it a lot in low clearance situations.

I put one on a Ranger years ago by temporarily removing the center stop light and punching a hole about 10 inches in. It was about where the FM antenna is on the Maverick. The cable I fished down the rear pillar and forward, very clean install. It performed very well, the top of the cab making an excellent ground plane.

I am hoping there are drain holes in the front of the bed, and that I can fit coax through that and up to the firewall, unless I can get power up through a hole under the rear seats where the battery is. I expect to mount the antenna behind the cab on the bed with a L and the radio under the seat along with a sla battery and isolator.

What band ranges are you looking for? If for a fairly common 2m/70cm mobile, then i would think a quarter wave (18" or so) on the roof top (I'm thinking the passenger back corner of the roof) or a half or full wave mounted outside the bed at the back corner of passenger side.

If you're looking for an HF setup, you'll want a larger antenna and the back corners of the bed are probably your best options.

I'm still waiting for my Maverick, but I'm pretty sure I've seen references to a vent behind the rear seat. I'm thinking it might be possible to feed the coax to the back of the bed thru that or perhaps drill a small hole near that vent. Obviously if I go with the rooftop quarter wave ... there's gonna be a hole drilled in the roof. ;)

It's going to be parked in a garage so I think a 1/4 wave will on the roof is not going to fit.

I may try to fit my Diamond tri-band behind the cab, or get a new dual band antenna. Radio will be a Yaesu FTM-300 or FTM400.

I have a ft891 using a tarheel 75a antenna and a ftm300d using a rubber dual band antenna. One antenna on each side of the bed.

Congratulations!

As I decided not to punch any holes in the truck or try to not damage the paint at all, I ended up with a cheap Tram glass mount on the rear window. It's not the best but I can bring up the local repeaters.

I was up on a 6,000 top hill in SD a few weeks back and raised a repeater 40 miles away, kind of surprised me.

There are drain holes. Worst comes to worst there are D rings you can remove and use the screw holes. Don't drill, thread instead.
