After neutral tow, shifter locked

Fellow RVers, after towing the Maverick, be sure to follow the instructions for returning to normal operation. The other day I was stressed due to a CEL on the motorhome (simply a sensor that failed) and I pressed onthe brake and shifted the transmission to park...and all he'll broke loose! It thought it was still in neutral and turned.on the parking brake and wouldn't let me do anything.

I figured I was in for a tow...but in desperation I disconnected the battery terminal (-ve) and waited 10 minutes. And it all went away. I could start the Mav and no CEL or.alarms. Praise God!

I should have added, the correct.procedure from the manual is to press the ignition buttor, or turn the key to accessory, then press the brake and shift out of neutral. Good luck everyone!

I have towed on three trips now and all was great, BUT I did hit my brake with my foot getting out before turning off the truck, and that will take it out of tow mode. lol

We just did our first trip flat towing Hybrid XLT behind motorhome (2000 miles) and I set it to neutral tow mode, turn key off and get out of maverick. We do our turn signal and brake light check, then I open the door, verify that small screen says neutral tow mode engaged.
I then lock the door with the other key fob and we are good to go.
Never had a problem in multiple days of towing. Great little truck!

I agree. It is a great vehicle. I just got the order of getting it out of neutral tow confused! Then you’re stuck with a flashing red symbol telling you the vehicle is in neutral and it’s unsafe to leave without putting on the parking brake…but it’s in park and won’t roll! Either you have it towed by a tow truck to the dealer, or you remove the negative terminal from the battery and Clear the codes. Then it will start and drive.

Thanks for having this same issue. The dashboard thought the truck was in neutral and neutral tow, the truck thought it was in Park or whatever gear we put it in using the dial. We unhooked the battery for more than 10 minutes, then hooked it back up. Worked like a charm! By the way, I think this happened because we were in neutral tow, then switched to reverse instead of disengaging neutral tow first. Live and learn! (2023 XLT)

Sonya, I believe you’re correct as that’s the sequence that got me into trouble. My car was in the middle of the road, and I was really sweating thinking I’d have to wait for an hour or more for a tow. I had called my roadside assistance and was on hold. I tried this out of desperation!
