I purchased an assist cylinder for the rear gate when they went on sale a few weeks ago. Simple install, works great. Just make sure you snap on the lower end of the strut first. I also added a Weathertech receiver bumper. I had one on my previous truck and it saved my butt a couple of times in parking lots.

I believe your strut is installed upside down... I initially had mine that way as well, until someone here on MTC pointed out that It is recommended to have the rod "down" and the cylinder at the top. That way the lubricants in the barrel are in contact with the seal, keeping the seal lubricated so it doesn't dry out and fail.

I believe your strut is installed upside down... Yes, I believe it is installed incorrectly as well.

Buy the four foot version so that it covers the whole plate and the Po-PO and traffic cams don't getcha! LOL
