Coming up on 30000 miles and against Ford's recommendation will be proactive and do fluid changes for the transmission, PTU, RDU, brakes, along with engine air filter, oil/filter change and tire rotation. Except for the oil all other fluids are currently break in. Live in the mountains and cold of Colorado and tend to drive somewhat aggressively so think it is warranted and cheap insurance. Anything else? Regards

The 24MY manual was changed online regarding intervals and inspection items and replacement times - you might take a peek to see if the 23MY was also, in case they improved some req's.

If you're doing it yourself, make sure you keep an eye on the transmission fluid temp. I believe it should be between 185-200 F before putting the drain plug back on.

If doing yourself: With the maverick all the gear boxes are filled to the fill hole level (not all modern ones are). Also, the magnetic plugs will be filled with black metallic debris, don't worry to much about this as it is perfectly normal. In the future I'd suggest you change out the PTU and RDU earlier and then every 30K for normal driving.

The cold temps for gear box oils is not really an issue; heat on a small amount of oil can be. The main issue is the metal grindings from break-in and use. The magnetic does its job till it is full then you have zero protection. The loose metal bits (paste, grindings, shavings) work like sand paper and compound any normal wear.

I let my wife's '22 Explorer ST go to little over 40K, but her vehicle is always traded every 4-5 years. This one she wants to keep, so I should have done it sooner. The oil was darker than I would have like but no-where near burnt and all mags were full.
