Howdy folks, just wanted to drop this picture in for people that were trying to figure out how much space you would have in the bed between the cab and the rear wheel. In my case, I was trying to figure out what tonneau cover to get that I could leave on with the bikes and then lock some of my gear under. I messaged a member that has a hard rollup and the width when it is fully rolled is around 9 inches. Looks like it would be a pretty tight fit so I think I'm going to go with the folding cover.

(also I do not have a tailgate pad yet so I used some blankets for testing fit)

Just took some measurements, looks to me like there is no chance it will fit with either one or both wheels on, it could possibly fit if no wheels are on. The issues I see then would be securing it and whether the handlebars would fit. I'm going to mess around with it tomorrow to see if it would work and I'll post an update. Not sure what size bike they used in the demos for the inside storage but definitely not a 29er.

Is the soft roll up good enough to fit? That’s my idea, I am also a fellow mountain biker, and one of the reasons I ordered my maverick is because I am tired of lifting my bike to the roof of my car 😂. I am glad to see that 29er fits well in the bed though. Stupid question, why can you throw you gear back in the cabin ? Would your pads, helmet, pack, etc fit under the seat? Thanks for the picture again, I was thinking of starting a thread for fellow bikers. Cheers

If you measure up where the widest point of the roll up would be it looks like you’d be closer to 11 or 12 inches.

A lot of my gear should fit under but sometimes I might go with two or three others so I want to make sure we can fit the bikes plus a small cooler or something. I can fit my helmet pads and my camelbak under the seats for sure tho. Im with you on the raising the bike onto a roof rack, thank god my car was low.

I am also looking at best way to transport a bike. Based on what I see will have to have the tailgate down. Had anybody figured out the best and easiest way? Possibly using one of the dividers and straddling the bike over it?

Any suggestions would be welcomed. Have not ordered my tonneau cover as I am waiting for ideas.

Thx!

Ford has a bunch of YouTube videos showing you really smart / easy / cost efficient ways of using the Flexbed. Here is one specifically for an in-bed bike mounting system including measurements and a detailed list of parts / tools / steps for the build:

I would even think of putting the bike fork mounts on a tracking system that runs the length of the board so that you can position them and/or add multiple mounts.

Now that I think about it you could also add an offset attachment to position the bike mounting board further away from the front of bed so that you can adjust for bed covers etc.

Thanks for the post, it confirms my early “eyeball guesses”. I’d originally wanted a hard roll up but was afraid of clearance when using a tailgate pad to haul them. Since I have zero interest in using any of the flex bed solutions, I opted to go soft roll up.

Looks like I made the right guess!

This seems suspect. With the front wheel removed, I cannot imagine pretty much any bike not fitting inside across the back with the bottom seat up. I used to transport my road bikes with both wheels on across the second row of my 2012 Honda Ridgeline. Granted, the Ridgeline has a wider cab, but if you remove the front wheel, I would think there would be no problem. Just a guess, but a slightly educated one.
