Dealer reached out this week to offer mobile service to come to me to apply the software update needed to fix recall 25C69/25V863.

Appointments are scheduled for an hour and the process takes about 20 minutes to install the software patch according to the person I spoke to.

The service department told me that an over the air delivered fix is planned but because of the update size, Ford is trying to get as many vehicles updated hands on by dealers as possible.

Thank you, I was wondering why they just didn't do this over the air.
OK, I still wonder. The cost of human time (my time and the dealers) seems to outweigh the cost of a big download.
But this does at least explain the recall plan.

My dealership tried to complete this recall on my 25 Lariat Hybrid AWD and it failed showing three failure codes. 1 was for the Hybrid high voltage battery which would not allow the truck to move. It couldn't complete the software update and my truck had to stay overnight as they ran out of time. My appointment was for 8am so they could have enough time to complete the update but failed causing thr truck to stay overnight and the next day the update was finished by 11:00 AM
So , I am not sure anyone will be able to do this software update in a driveway. Maybe my case was a one time fluke, but be aware of this possibility happening.

Before I picked up my 26 XL hybrid on 2/11/26 the NHTSA website said it had this open recall on it and after I picked it up from the dealer I checked the NHTSA website again and it now says there is no recall on my VIN # ...... How it got fixed I have no idea and the dealer didn't say one word about fixing it either.

Just had mine the other day, along with oil change and the clip behind the dashboard for some idiot light or other. I was there over FOUR HOURS!

I’m guessing this is an effort to reduce the risk for Ford, by ensuring someone is hands-on with the vehicle during the update to ensure it completes.

I had my 256C69 recall done this morning. I was told that this is only for Hybrids and EV's as of now. The receipt says that the SOBDMC (Secondary On-Board Diagnostic Control Module C) was updated with the latest software. I was in and out in about an hour but the service guy told me that the time needed to complete the update was dependent on 3 other modules. If they didn't need updating, it would be about an hour. If any of the 3 modules (didn't say which modules) needed updating, then it would be 1.5 hrs for each module, which could be close to 6 hrs total if all modules required updating. I only have 4,500 miles on my truck and purchased in 10/25 so it had the most recent updates already in place.
I didn't notice any changes after the update. I had previously turned on TSR via Forscan and the TSR was not affected. It still worked as expected. I also asked if this could possibly become an OTA update, and was told that this recall would require a trip to the dealer and not be an OTA update. Right or wrong, that is what he told me.

I had the 25C69 update installed at the dealer Wednesday.
They told me when I made the appointment that it could be 4 hours.
In my case two of the modules that required an update were already current.
It took less than 90 minutes, and that included a free standard safety inspection.
Piece of cake.

Wouldn't have been allowed to leave the lot if the recall wasn't done.
So they likely did it during final prep.
Sales rep wouldn't have known, or not wanted to say.

But this does at least explain the recall plan.
Failed downloads when that big, failed attempts at updates when that big - resulting in something worse that would now require even more dealer tech time.

Ya - makes sense.
Especially if there were other module DTC's that may have occurred (as other post mentions), that would prevent this one from installing.
Never mind drivers that have the settings wrong or disabled for getting it.

Also, I'm sure Ford has discovered as others makers have - the longer you go past the recall, the stronger owners figure it doesn't matter, everything seems to operate alright - I'll let it go.
Now you have compliance figures Ford is going to get dinged for because they are too low.

I just had my update done in my garage by the Ford mobile van. Took 15 minutes today

I had mine done and it took almost 6 hours. After the first couple of hours, someone turned on some movies, I watched 2.
