The 1.5l is an awesome engine. It pulled 80mph Utah freeways like a champ...climbed 13,000ft Wheeler Peak in Nevada...all the time 30mpg.

Ya know, it also shuts off a cylinder at highway speeds...literally only needs 2cylinders. And stays in low rpm grunt modes like a good diesel. You guys dissing that engine don't know what you are talking about.
I bet it would be a KILLER HYBRID PARTICULARLY WITH 2 CYLINDER GRUNT MODE AND LARGER HVB!!!!!

I agree though, it's commendable. It just never belonged in the BS.
Ford doesn't agree with you, as it is the standard engine. The more I studied the engine, the more impressive it is. It actually has a steel chain timing gear. A large 6.5qt oil sump. It's light weight, high tech, and powerful. Longevity should be good--this engine and its variants have been sold globally for many years.

lol ok. Cool story.

Everything about the engine I disliked was my opinion, things I noticed and disliked and others share it too. I never said you were wrong about the way it's built... only it's purpose in the BS. It's not that serious to argue how great the engine over it, or why FORD retains engines over so many years. They kept the Tritons in service for how long? And they are pieces of crap. Globally known. I'm certain the money had nothing to do with it and never does. I also never questioned it's reliability or it's durability for that matter. I think the things you are listing are great qualities.

Doesn't change why some people feel it's underpowered. It's an opinion. Welcome to the internet forums.

At around $45,000 and knowing the build quality is around what the Maverick is, hard pass for me. That's a lot of coin and opens up more options.
When I shopped the B-Sport I looked pretty hard at the Badlands because I don't want the 1.5L but they're $50,000 here in Canada and there just isn't enough to justify that premium. Too many other choices for that kind of money or less, even in Ford brands like the Maverick, Escape or even a Lincoln Corsair.

Now we know what the Maverick Raptor is gonna have. They could also call it Tremor Adrenaline.
I say it will have:

Bilstein shocks
0.4" lift
Modular bumper
Rally mode
360 camera
One pedal drive
Upfitter switches
245/65r17

2.3 with paddle shifters would be icing on the cake.

I would be happy with that, $40,000 would be the top price I could reason though, especially considering what can be gotten for a lil more.

The triton engines could have a lil trouble, that was often skilled maintenece specific. Or the could tow too damn heavy, and haul around overloaded truck, for 300,000 without complaint. I think their sweet spot was in f250s.

Nothing wrong with the 1.5L.. My wife has a 23 Big Bend. She has put over 20k miles on it in just over a year. Has plenty of power and actually sounds good. I think it sounds better than most 4 cylinders.
My Escape (2021) had the 1.5L EB. Competent engine, I'd describe power as adequate. Great mileage. I'm kind of surprised that it's not offered for the Maverick, though not with towing or off road packages, of course.

FYI...I noticed that the Heater/AC controls are in the screen. No physical Knobs.
I rented a Escape that had the screen control and absolutely hated it.
To the point of thinking its a dangerous feature. Kind of like texting while driving.
Always having to take your eyes off the road to adjust it Unlike knobs you know where there at .
I'm kinda of in disbelief that they even allow this on vehicles on such a critical component.
Being a retired Heavy Haul Truck driver i couldn't imagine this in a Semi.
Its one of those features that would get over looked upon purchasing . It was definitely not something i thought about until i rented one and had to use it glad i did.
I wouldn't buy any vehicle period using that system.
So come on Ford put some Physical Knobs back on the dash.

Same.

I'll repost, revive, and simp for any thread that brings this up. Over. And over. And over.

The few times I adjust it, I don't need to stabilize my hand or worry about pressing the wrong button and then having to take my eyes off the road for 5 seconds just to get back to where it was.

Just trying to turn it down or up, you risk hitting the off button, the steering wheel heater and the heated seats. And all it takes is one bump or one fat finger too far over for the screens liking.

To turn off the current one, I hit the giant knob button and I'm done. No worries about anything else.

Screens suck for these kinds of controls.

See... I said the same thing back when the hybrid engine was backordered into oblivion but was laughed at on this forum. lol The 1.5L Dragon and the 2.5L hybrid have very similar performance specs (at least, that's the case last time I compared them on paper). With Ford seemingly learning from their past Maverick ordering issues and the hybrid being offered in all trims with AWD, Ford including the 1.5L as an option would probably be redundant. I wouldn't be surprised if Ford in the coming years makes the 2.5L hybrid powertrain the "new" 1.5L.

This A/C screen thing is the one thing that has turned me off from the Maverick. I know the just-use-the-auto-button crowd hates that we keep bringing it up, but it's a major turn off. I would love to see some form of federal regulation that would make certain tactile controls inside a vehicle mandatory, but I'm sure the auto companies will just lobby with some BS about "tHat'S wHaT vOiCe cOmMaNds aRe fOr". Bleh!

If I wasn't lazy (it's my super power), I'd dig up the torque and power curves for both the 2.5 and the 1.5 Dragon. I suspect that, without the electric motor, the 1.5 has a wider torque curve so that its 'grunt' is available across a fairly wide part of the RPM range. I know that there was no lack of low end or any kind of "peaky" performance curve with my 1.5, although it got a little less enjoyable when in "2 cylinder" eco mode. But responsive in all conditions.

I think the 1.5 would be a stellar performer in a 2200-2500 pound vehicle. Which probably doesn't exist any more. It was adequate and reliable in my Escape, as I had noted earlier.

I use the auto setting. I'm not sure what they are talking about either lol. It's terrible!

You said it best - tactile.

And it can be achieved in the same location if they wanted to! A little more separation, a little bigger, and NOT part of the screen. It can literally be a module under the screen that is still all one piece and cheaper to make than the two piece system that is clearly costing them so much money this was seen as a solution justified by constant price increases...

just saying.

That's a solid take. Kinda what I was trying to get at but you did a much better job of it lol. Thanks man.
